Naracoorte (SA) - Thursday 28 February 2002

Track: Good
Weather: Overcast
Rail: True

RACE 1 – COMMERCIAL HOTEL/SABIS MAIDEN PLATE

Racing to the 700 metres MR. MOSS (K. Post), which was showing a tendency to lay out, shifted out resulting in KID DAPPER (P. Marks) being hampered and in consequence taken out making contact with BORRACHOSO (J. Julian), which in turn shifted out hampering COMANECI (M. Evans) and WINTER (C. Puls). At the same time, and contributing to the incident, WINTER (C. Puls) showed a tendency to shift away from AL ZIMER (D. Yendall).

Racing to the 600 metres COMANEECI (M. Evans) and WINTER (C. Puls) brushed on several occasions.

RACE 2 – MAYFIELD THOROUGHBREDS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP

MORE MELBOURNE (W. Kerford) was very slow to begin. Trainer, Mrs. S. Jaensch, was advised that a warning was placed on MORE MELBOURNE and should that gelding be slow away again, action may be taken against it.

A veterinary inspection of MORE MELBOURNE was unable to be carried out due to that horse being taken from the course before the required time. Mrs. S. Jaensch, Trainer of MORE MELBOURNE, was charged under ARR 117 for removing the gelding prior to the required time and fined $200.

RACE 3 – BELVEDERE MOTEL COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE

On jumping away OF ARABIA (D. Mittiga) shifted out and inconvenienced UMADALE (G. Hoobin).

S. Harrison, the rider of AMIROVITCH, reported that the colt laid out throughout the race.

NAME IT (J. Potter) and TRESPASSERS WILL (D. Yendall) both showed a tendency to over race in the early stages of the race.

RACE 4 – NEIL OTTOSON REAL ESTATE DISTANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP

REGAL ARK (C. Puls) was slow to begin.

DANTE’S WISH (NZ) (D. Mittiga) jumped away awkwardly and inconvenienced PARINGA (J. Potter).

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to allow C. Puls, the rider of the fourth placegetter REGAL ARK, and M. Munday, the rider of the second placegetter ALL BLACK SYMPHONY, to view the official photo finish of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with the Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

Trainer, Mr. P. Jones, reported that STORMY CHALLENGE was suffering an irregular heartbeat after the race and he advised the Stewards that the gelding would be retired. Stewards advised Mr. Jones that they would require the results of an ECG if that horse were to be presented to race again.

RACE 5 – PINKERTON, PALM, HAMLYN & STEEN PTY LTD CLASS 2 HANDICAP

G. Hoobin, the rider of GRENOUILLE, explained to the Stewards that he had not intended to lead on the gelding but as it refused to settle in the early stages he was unable to restrain it.

After the running of the race Trainer, Mr. M. O’Leary, was asked to explain why he had presented GRENOUILLE to race in blinkers when in fact it is not a blinker horse. Mr. O’Leary explained it had been an oversight on his part and the Stewards subsequently charged him under ARR 140A with presenting GRENOUILLE to race in blinkers when in fact the gelding was not a blinker horse and fined him $100.

RACE 6 – MINI JUMBUK NARACOORTE CUP

Racing to the 1200 metres BLUE RINSE (C. Lindop) had to be eased to avoid the heels of DALLAENI (M. Hoppo).

Correct Weight for this event was delayed in being semaphored to allow G. Hoobin, the rider of the second placegetter SLY RAMBLER, to view both the head on video film of the race and also the official photo finish print. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.
