*M Evans was severely reprimanded for accepting a ride when overweight on Compactus

Race 1 - MIDFIELD MEATS SUPER VOBIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 METRES

Acting on a report from the starter that Valdiola proved difficult to load in the starting stalls and contributed to the start of the race being delayed. The stewards notified Mr G Hicks trainer of Valdiola that a warning was being placed on the filly for her behaviour today and was notified that should she perform in similar manner in future it may lead to some further action being taken against the filly. Mr Hicks was further notified he must produce a barrier certificate in respect of the filly prior to her starting again. Acting on a report from the starter that Maranello Miss proved difficult to load in the starting stalls and contributed to the start of the race being delayed. The stewards notified Maureen Harry trainer of Maranello Miss that a warning was being placed on the filly for her behaviour today and was notified that should she perform in a similar manner in future it may lead to some further action being taken against the filly. Maureen Harry was further notified she must produce a barrier certificate in respect of the filly prior to starting again.

Hardware Lane & Valdiola were slow to begin.

Race 2 - PENSHURST TRADERS MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 METRES

Denis was examined by the club veterinary surgeon at the start and passed fit to run. Shortly after the start Jasta Turtle & Borzoi Doll were both tightened for room between Bag of Pearls & Haunted which both shifted ground. M Hagley rider of Palamine explained that the mare after drawing wide got back out of her ground in the early stages due to the mare hanging in.

Race 3 - SHIRE OF SOUTHERN GRAMPIANS CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1284 METRES

Approaching the 200m Any Moment Now was hampered and had to change course to obtain a clear run when tightened for room by Red Tamari which shifted in.

Race 4 - PDRC MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1476 METRES

The start of this race was delayed due to a power failure.

On jumping away Acuwish, Bon Tartan, and Doug's Dream were tightened for room between Ruby Song and Renzo which both shifted ground. As a result Bon Tartan and Acuwish lost ground.

Approaching the winning post Harry I am was tightened for room between Jester Lane and Beauciel which shifted in.

Race 5 - PDRC MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1476 METRES

Near the 1200 Bonhomme De Neige clipped the heels of Neat Bourbon which when laying in shifted in slightly and almost fell. As a result Unforgetable Me and Kincoy which were following were hampered in consequence.

L. Bant the rider of Bonhomme De Neige stated that after almost falling near the 1200 metres she eased the horse up out of the event rounding the home turn as she believed something was amiss with it. A veterinary examination of Bonhomme De Neige failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 6 - MOUNT ROUSE RARE RUMP & RED PENSHURST CUP - 2000 METRES

At the entrance to the straight Battle Tower was hampered when tightened for room between Jacque and Tonvenor which shifted out slightly.

Race 7 - CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1476 METRES

Near the 600 metres Western District and Mystic Man were hampered when tightened for room by Karnak which shifted in slightly.

Near thev 200 metres Blue Surrender had to be checked when tightened for room between Sir Poppa Don which shifted out slightly and Aubbutler (T.Barry) which shifted in. T.Barry was reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Race 8 - NOVOTEL ST KILDA CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 2000 METRES

No report.

Race 9 - YALLAMBEE STUD CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1476 METRES

No report.

ADJOURNED ENQUIRIES -

The stewards today interviewed licensed trainers J Smerdon, trainer of Share the Glory race 9, who was also representing Russell Cameron trainer of Le Destina race 6, licensed trainer D Weir trainer of Harry I Am race 4, Battle Tower race 6, Pure Class race 7 stewards also interviewed Mr S Morrish licensed trainer who was floating horses to the races today for trainers D Weir, J Smerdon, R Cameron and M Keegan. They also took evidence from Mr P Newcombe owner trainer, Mr B McLean registered stable hand with Mr D Weir and also telephone evidence from M Keegan trainer of Doug's Dream race 4 and from Dr P O'Callaghan Veterinarian Racing Victoria in respect of activities near the Penshurst Racecourse involving Mr J Smerdon and Mr S Morrish. Stewards inspected two race bags and took possession of both bags on course and several items contained in those bags. Acting on an assurance from Mr S Morrish and J Smerdon, who stated that they had not treated any runner with a prohibited substance and receiving an assurance from Mr D Weir that he had not treated or instructed anyone to treat any of his runners with a prohibited substance, the stewards permitted Le Destina, Share the Glory, Battle Tower and Pure Class to race today. Pre-race blood samples were taken from those four horses for post race analysis. The enquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
