G. Hoobin, rider of TENNESSEE JOHN, explained the gelding commenced to hang out from shortly after the start and he was unable to ride the gelding out over the concluding stages due to it wanting to shorten its stride and as it continued to lay in under pressure G. Hoobin was concerned with TENNESSEE JOHN’S action. A Veterinary inspection of TENNESSEE JOHN failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3 – WONGABEENA CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 Metres:

T. Barras, rider of MAYBE AMELIA, explained that after jumping on terms with the field he was caught three wide and he was of the opinion that to have gone forward would have used the mare up too much, and that to have eased back would have been giving away too much ground to the other runners. A Veterinary inspection of MAYBE AMELIA revealed that it was lame in the off fore knee and required treatment.

RACE 4 – GARTNER MEMORIAL DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1700 Metres:

PURE GOLD STAR (G. Hoobin) was disappointed for a run between the 600 metres behind OUR SPEED LINE (J. Potter), and racing to the entrance to the straight was further disappointed when it had to be eased off the heels of ON THE GROG (M. Hoppo).

Hagley), which in turn made contact and brushed on several occasions with SPANISH STEPS (A. Peterson). J. Dertilis was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
