RACE 1 – SMOKE-FREE / SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 1200 metres

MILITARY POST was a late withdrawal at 12.44 p.m. when a Veterinary examination of the gelding behind the barriers revealed that it was shin sore.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on MILITARY POST be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 25 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 19 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are not subject to the deductions.

REGAL RIPPLE (J. Potter) raced extremely greenly in the early stages of the event and continually shifted ground.

Over the concluding stages BUSHER (C. Lindop) showed a tendency to lay in under pressure.

RACE 2 – BUNGALA ABORIGINAL CORPORATION / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE 3YO & UP – 1200 metres

When the gates were released TALUSE (J. Burgess) and VIRGINIA RED (M. Neilson) dwelt slightly.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres CLASSIC DANZIG (A. Stead) shifted out slightly, resulting in DEVENEY (S. Lovegrove) being inconvenienced.

RACE 3 – WEST END DRAUGHT HANDICAP – 1100 metres

GREY HEIREA (K. Louca) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after the start had to be eased when PELIGRO (M. Neilson) shifted in slightly.

J. Burgess, rider of STAR AGLOW, reported to Stewards the gelding showed a tendency to hang out over the concluding 500 metres of the event.

RACE 4 – DEAN SHELVING – 1850 metres

ALL RISE (S. Lovegrove) jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.

THE KALICI KID (J. Burgess) jumped away awkwardly and threw its head in the air. The gelding continued to race ungenerously, throwing its head about for some distance.

JEALTS EXPRESS (R. Faehr) was slow to begin.

RACE 5 – CURYER JEWELLERS CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

Upon jumping away AMEN BEV (J. Burgess) jumped inwards and at the same time CENTRAL VIC (B. Vale) jumped outwards, resulting in EDVOKIA (M. Neilson), which was racing between those two horses, being hampered.

Racing to the 1000 metres EDVOKIA (M. Neilson) shifted in slightly, making contact with AMEN BEV (J. Burgess).

HUG A MUG (J. Holder) was held up for a clear run racing in the vicinity of the 500 to inside the 400 metres.

Rounding the home turn HUG A MUG (J. Holder) shifted out onto CENTRAL VIC (B. Vale), which was showing a tendency to hang out. In consequence EDVOKIA (M. Neilson), which was racing outside of CENTRAL VIC, was inconvenienced.

M. Neilson, rider of EDVOKIA, dropped his whip in the vicinity of the 350 metres. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by M. Neilson.

A Veterinary examination of AMEN BEV, subsequent to the race, revealed the filly had damaged a tooth and returned with blood in its mouth, as a result of the filly having knocked its head in the barriers prior to the start when extremely fractious.
