Port Augusta (SA) - Sunday 14 July 2002
Track: Good
Weather: Fine
Rail: True

RACE 1 – PORT AUGUSTA CITY AMBASSADORS / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres

Upon jumping away COMING UP ROSES (J. Holder) shifted out abruptly onto MISS CORVETTE (J. Lyon), who in turn was taken out onto KNIGHT’S CROSSING (M. Hoppo), resulting in that gelding being taken out, making contact with the hindquarters of EYES OF AN ANGEL (J. Burgess), unbalancing that mare and as a result KNIGHT’S CROSSING being severely hampered and losing its position.

YAN YEAN (D. Azis) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with the hindquarters of WISE CRACKER (J. O’Connor).

Approaching the 200 metres BEAU INCA (B. Vale) shifted in under riding, resulting in RIVIERA GEM (K. Louca), which was weakening, being inconvenienced. B. Vale was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

MITOBY (N. Tomizawa) laid in under pressure in the straight and was reluctant to come away from the heels of WISE CRACKER (J. O’Connor).

A Veterinary examination of MISS CORVETTE, subsequent to the event, revealed the filly had sustained an injury to its off fore tendon. As a result Ms. S. Ratsch, Trainer of MISS CORVETTE, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for a future event.

RACE 2 – COUNTRYWIDE LABOUR FORCE / SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 1200 metres

MUSTIN BUNDY (J. Burgess) and NOWHERE ELSE (M. Hoppo) both jumped away extremely awkwardly and shifted ground, bumping together heavily.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres NOWHERE ELSE (M. Hoppo), which was racing ungenerously, shifted in abruptly and had to be checked from the heels of HAIRAN (K. Louca).

In the vicinity of the 300 metres CLOUDS OF FIRE (J. Lyon), which had shown a tendency to hang out throughout the event, shifted in when being over corrected by its rider, resulting in HAIRAN (K. Louca), which was racing on its inside, having to be steadied.

B. Grimston, rider of MISS ZUTPHEN, reported to Stewards the filly had shown a tendency to hang in throughout the event.

RACE 3 – ALSTOM CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1600 metres

DEVENEY (R. Faehr) was slow to begin.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow C. Bryant, rider of GO SPIDER one of the dead-heaters in the event, to view the official print of the finish and also to allow J. Potter, rider of STAR REBEL fourth placegetter, to view the official head-on video of the concluding stages. When no print of the finish was available, Stewards permitted C. Bryant to view the computer generated image of the finish. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards and the Judge, numbers were verified. After viewing the video of the concluding stages of the race J. Potter, rider of STAR REBEL fourth placegetter, lodged an objection against C. Bryant, rider of GO SPIDER one of the dead-heaters in the event, for alleged interference over the concluding 150 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, viewing the official video film and acting on their own observations, Stewards dismissed J. Potter’s objection.

Racing to the 100 metres GO SPIDER (C. Bryant) shifted out slightly, resulting in STAR REBEL (J. Potter) becoming momentarily unbalanced.

RACE 4 – SMOKE-FREE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

WARENDA PRINCE (M. Hoppo) was slow to begin.

Over the concluding 100 metres KREMLIN ADVANCE (B. Vale) was unable to obtain clear ground when trapped behind the tiring PARIS LACE (D. Tootell).

RACE 5 – A H PLANT HIRE CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

KENSARM (K. Louca) was slow to begin and raced ungenerously, throwing its head about in early stages of the race.

Racing to the 1250 metres SO SAY ALL OF US (R. Faehr) shifted in when insufficiently clear of CHINA VICEROY (D. Azis), resulting in that gelding being tightened and taken in onto CANADIAN COMET (J. Potter), who in turn became tightened and shifted in onto FABIO PENNACCHIO (M. Hoppo), resulting in CANADIAN COMET and FABIO PENNACCHIO brushing and becoming unbalanced. Due to the pressure CHINA VICEROY was obliged to check to avoid the heels of SO SAY ALL OF US.

R. Faehr, rider of SO SAY ALL OF US, was charged with Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and after pleading guilty to the charge was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 14th July and to expire at midnight on 27th July 2002. A period of four meetings.

Racing to the 1200 metres SAXONY GIRL (N. Tomizawa) shifted in onto CHINA VICEROY (D. Azis), who in turn shifted in onto CANADIAN COMET (J. Potter), resulting in that mare being tightened for galloping room, forced to check and lose its position. N. Tomizawa was reprimanded by Stewards and advised in similar circumstances to exercise more care, as they believed this interference had been influenced by the earlier incident at the 1250 metres.

RACE 6 – CITY OF PORT AUGUSTA FLYING HANDICAP – 1200 metres

RICH THEME (D. Tootell) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 900 metres ADELAIDE EXPRESS (J. O’Connor), which was racing ungenerously and showing a tendency to hang out, had to be checked from the heels of ALL RISE (J. Lyon), which shifted in. J. Lyon was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

RACE 7 – WEST END DRAUGHT PORT AUGUSTA CUP – 2200 metres

In the vicinity of the 900 metres VANDECLARE (D. Tootell) shifted out to improve its position, resulting in ZAHEEM (A. Stead) being tightened onto DASHING DANCER (C. Bryant) and having to be eased. D. Tootell was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres TEHRIER (J. Potter) had to be checked from the heels of TIKI PRINCE (Ms. M. Henderson), which had commenced to tire and shift ground.

J. Holder, rider of BUFFALO POWER, was fined $100 under ARR 137(c), when that rider made a celebratory gesture with his whip prior to the winning post.

RACE 8 – PACIFIC NATIONAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres CENTRAL VIC (J. Potter) shifted in, resulting in COZARVY (C. Lindop) being tightened for galloping room, forced to ease the filly and lose its position. J. Potter was advised in similar circumstances to take far greater care when shifting ground.

MISS COALPEPPER (Ms. Henderson) raced ungenerously throughout the event.

SWABBING:

Race 4 LANDSLIP (winner)
Race 7 BUFFALO POWER (winner)
