Port Augusta (SA) - Thursday 9 August 2001
Track: Good
Weather: Fine
Rail - Normal position

RACE 1 – WEST END DRAUGHT PLATE:

A swab sample was taken from WARENDA PRINCE, winner of the race.

RACE 2 – SMOKE-FREE HANDICAP:

The start was delayed when TIME TRAVEL (D. Tootell) proved to be fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Trainer Mr. W. Petrie was advised that a warning had been placed on TIME TRAVEL, in relation to its barrier manners.

RACE 3 – SMOKE-FREE/SABIS HANDICAP:

KIRKALA (B. Vale) was inclined to race ungenerously in the middle stages.

STANSBY (Murray Henderson) showed a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages, forcing its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount.

RACE 4 – SMOKE-FREE HANDICAP:

In the vicinity of the 400 metres CHIPPER LORD (B. Claridge) faltered badly before being quickly restrained and retired from the event. In the incident MOTTO (H. McKechnie), which was racing behind CHIPPER LORD, was severely inconvenienced. A subsequent Veterinary examination of CHIPPER LORD revealed the gelding had severely injured a near fore leg. Trainer Ms. S. Stott was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required for CHIPPER LORD before being accepting in races again.

RACE 5 – WEST END DRAUGHT HANDICAP (Class 1) - (1200 metres):

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow C. Buchiw, rider of the 4th Placegetter, to view the official Stewards head-on patrol film. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

SANUR (C. Lindop) jumped awkwardly.

Shortly after the start BONNOWN (H. McKechnie) shifted in sharply and as a result STAR REBEL (M. Hoppo) shifted in and away from that gelding, resulting in TARARI FOX (R. Stewart) having to be checked.

H. McKechnie was reprimanded by Stewards and advised to give riders on her inside the room to which they are entitled.

In the vicinity of the 900 metres BONNOWN (H. McKechnie) shifted in and as a result TARCOOLA GOLD (C. Buchiw) had to be steadied.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres BONNOWN (H. .McKechnie) shifted in and as a result BUSH VINE (K. Louca) had to be checked.

H. McKechnie was reminded of her obligations when shifting ground.

BUSH VINE (K. Louca) was continually held up for a clear run between the 400 and 250 metres.

In the vicinity of the 250 metres STAR REBEL (M. Hoppo) shifted in slightly onto TARCOOLA GOLD (C. Buchiw), which in turn shifted in and hampered BUSH VINE (K. Louca).

RACE 6 – WEST END DRAUGHT HANDICAP (Class 4) - (1600 metres):

KENSARM (K. Louca) jumped awkwardly.

DONTAINE (C. Symons) showed a tendency to lay out throughout the event.

RACE 7 – WEST END DRAUGHT HANDICAP – (1600 metres):

A swab sample was taken from GRETROBY, winner of the race.

RACE 8 – SMOKE-FREE PLATE:

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow B. Vale, rider of the 2nd Placegetter YAN YEAN, to view the official photo-finish. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

JON D’ORO (D. Azis) was a late scratching at 4.40 p.m. when the gelding refused to be loaded in the barrier. Trainer Mrs. E. Seneca was advised that JON D’ORO must complete a satisfactory barrier trial before being accepted for any future races.

Stewards ruled that all monies wagered on JON D’ORO be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 5 cents in the dollar from the face value of the ticket, and
Bets for a PLACE - 5 cents in the dollar from the winnings only.

YAN YEAN (B. Vale) knuckled at the start and as a result lost some ground.

TARLAY (D. Tootell) and RIVIERA GEM (K. Louca) were both slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres RIVIERA GEM (K. Louca) had to be steadied from heels of OUR BUTTERFLY (C. Buchiw).
