 RACE 1
CAPITAL CORP/SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE Darren Holland replaced C. Lever as
the rider of DIGBURY owing to C. Lever being indisposed due to an injury sustained in a
race fall at Gawler on 10th October 2001. MISS PUBLICITY was a late withdrawal at
1.02 pm prior to betting opening, when a veterinary examination of the filly revealed an
infection to its wither. DIGBURY underwent a veterinary examination
behind the barriers after that gelding reared over in the mounting yard. DIGBURY was
passed fit to take its place in the field. Upon jumping away ZETAS (L. Smith) shifted
inwards resulting in contact being made with SUNESSE (D. Wilson). DIGBURY (Darren Holland) and WEAK ELASTIC
        (M. Hoppo) bumped together at the start. Shortly after the start CHAUDON (B.
Claridge) shifted out resulting in SUNESSE (D. Wilson) being inconvenienced. Racing to the 300 metres SOLIANKA (W.
Kerford) was disappointed for a run due to OUR COMET (J. Lorensini) shifting out and at
the same time SUNESSE (D. Wilson) shifting in. Racing to the 100 metres SOLIANKA (W.
Kerford) was tightened for galloping room and had to be eased and change direction
outwards due to SUNESSE (D. Wilson) shifting in under riding taking OUR COMET (J.
Lorensini) in onto SOLIANKIA. D. Wilson was advised by Stewards that, when his mounts
commence to shift ground, he would be required to stop riding and straighten them
immediately. RACE 2 VIRBAC (AUSTRALIA) PTY
LTD MAIDEN PLATE Correct Weight for this event was
delayed to enable J. OConnor, rider of SHORE WARNING, the third placegetter, to view
the official head-on video over the concluding stages of the race. After doing so, in
conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was duly notified. A swab sample was taken from LADY RANSOM,
winner of the race. In the vicinity of the 1000 metres HUG A
MUG (B. Claridge) shifted out slightly onto HIROTA (W. Kerford) who in turn shifted out
slightly onto LADY RANSOM (H. McKechnie). As a result that mare shifted out slightly which
resulted in FEAR REIGN (D. Wilson) shifting out abruptly away from LADY RANSOM and in turn
taking SHORE WARNING (J. OConnor) wider on the track. In the vicinity of the 300 metres
PROSPECTOR GIRL (L. Smith) was disappointed for a run for a short distance when caught
behind the tiring QUIP (D. Azis). Over the concluding 200 metres of the event
FEAR REIGN (D. Wilson) shifted out continually under riding and racing to the post, SHORE
WARNING (J. OConnor), which was racing on the outside of FEAR REIGN, was tightened
for galloping room and forced to check when tightened between FEAR REIGN, on its inside,
and LADY RANSOM (H. McKechnie), on its outside, which shifted in slightly. D. Wilson was
severely reprimanded by Stewards and advised, under similar circumstances, he would be
required to act far more quickly and in a positive manner when his mounts commence to
shift. A veterinary examination of QUIP subsequent
to the event revealed that gelding had sustained a laceration to its near hind leg, which
required treatment. RACE 3 GRAND TASMAN
HOTEL/SABIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP PURAVALOUR (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly and as a
result was slow to begin. MR. DONALDSON (J. OConnor) was slow to begin. In the vicinity of the 800 metres MR. DONALDSON (J.
OConnor), which had been racing keenly, had to be eased for a short distance and
lost some ground. RACE 4 DEMPSEYS SADDLERY & FEED
SUPPLIES CLASS 6 HANDICAP J. OConnor replaced C. Lever as the rider of
RECKILINO. In the vicinity of the 1100 metres JETHRO
        (S. Lovegrove), which had been racing keenly, accidentally clipped the heels of ZOOMERATOR
        (L. Smith) and dipped when ZOOMERATOR came back marginally due to a change of pace. Stewards questioned J. Lorensini, rider of
SOUTH NEPTUNE, regarding his riding of that mare in the straight. J. Lorensini reported to
Stewards that after obtaining a run on straightening, the mare had commenced to improve
when put under whip riding for a short distance. He further stated, in his opinion, the
mare had resented the use of the whip and had commenced to race with its head in the air.
At this point of the race, J. Lorensini rode the mare to the line in a hands and heels
fashion when, in his opinion, SOUTH NEPTUNE finished the race in a more positive manner
than when ridden with the whip. Stewards noted the explanation tendered by J. Lorensini
and reminded that rider of his responsibility in riding his mounts in a manner that cannot
be questioned by Stewards. RACE 5 LINCOLN CITY TAXI
FLYING HANDICAP A veterinary examination of ONCE A
PRINTER, which had reared over in the mounting yard prior to the event, revealed that
gelding was fit to take its place in the field. MARKADA (D. Tootell), which was restless in
its stall prior to the start, jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Upon pulling up KEEP REMEMBERING (B.
Claridge) suffered a punctured aorta. RACE 6 INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL
HEALTH PRODUCTS PTY LTD CLASS 2 HANDICAP EDVOKIA (H. McKechnie) jumped away
awkwardly and raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race. ASTRO TRAVELLER (M. Hoppo) dipped when the
gates were released. In the vicinity of the 400 metres GORDON
MACALMAN (C. Lindop) and KEEN ON BILL (D. Tootell) were both held up for a short distance
when WALK TALL (D. Wilson) commenced to tire quickly. In the vicinity of the 300 metres, and for
some distance, ROSES N RAIN (B. Vale) was held up behind ASTRO TRAVELLER (M.
        Hoppo). RACE 7 BALDWINS PLUMBING
& GAS PTY LTD CLASS 4 HANDICAP STARBLAZER (L. Smith) jumped away
awkwardly resulting in that gelding being extremely slow to begin. KISSING CUP (C. Lindop) knuckled slightly
        on jumping away. |
