Port Lincoln (SA) - Tuesday 12 March 2002
Track: Good
Weather: Fine
Rail: True

RACE 1 – MORPHETT ARMS HOTEL / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division):

The start of this race was delayed owing to SYNCHRONICITY dislodging M. Neilson en route to the start.

Acting on Veterinary advice that it was unfit to start, Stewards withdrew SYNCHRONICITY at 12.06 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on SYNCHRONICITY be refunded, with no other alteration to betting.

LADY SPICE (J. Holder) and MUSGITAL (C. Buchiw) were slow to jump.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres RUBY SAL (S. Lovegrove) shifted out, away from the rail and inconvenienced FLINDERS’ DREAM (C. Lindop), which shifted out onto MUSGITAL (C. Buchiw), resulting in that filly being taken out and clipping the heels of TASHILADO (W. Kerford). MUSGITAL raced greenly thereafter.

Over the concluding stages CHEVITA (Darren Holland) shifted out under pressure.

RACE 2 – MORPHETT ARMS HOTEL / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division):

TORN SCARLET (M. Hoppo) was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, prior to the start, and ruled fit.

CHAUDON (S. Price) and SIMMS COVE (H. McKechnie) jumped away awkwardly, resulting in CHAUDON shifting in, contacting SIMMS COVE and tightening it onto GOLD RUN (M. Neilson), which was inconvenienced.

TORN SCARLET (M. Hoppo) was eased out of the race near the 800 metres when that rider became concerned about the gelding’s action.

Inside the 400 metres SIMMS COVE (H. McKechnie) was obliged to steady off the heels of SIMPLY SUAVE (C. Lindop), which rolled in.

Subsequent to the event TORN SCARLET was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found to be lame in the near fore leg.

RACE 3 – PARNELL MOGAS DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE:

CENTAUR CASH (C. Buchiw) was slow to jump.

Racing to the winning post on the first occasion, KEEP GOING (J. Lyon), which got its head up and raced ungenerously when being steadied, became unbalanced after being brushed by RENDL (W. Kerford), which rolled in.

RACE 4 – MALAYSIA AIRLINES DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

BLUE WONDER (M. Hoppo), which was restless in the gates, was slow to jump.

C. Buchiw, rider of PURAVALOUR, dropped her whip in the vicinity of the 450 metres. Due to C. Buchiw’s good record Stewards took no action, however informed C. Buchiw that future infringements will result in a penalty being imposed.

Near the 200 metres ON THE GROG (H. McKechnie) shifted out, taking KAILEY FALCON (J. Potter) out onto RUBICAN (J. Burgess), which was inconvenienced.

Subsequent to the race Veterinary inspections of JUGGLED, BLUE WONDER and KAILEY FALCON revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 5 – BUNDABERG RUM CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

DONOOKTA (Darren Holland) was slow to jump.

BAROLO (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 6 – STAMFORD PLAZA CLASS 5 HANDICAP:

DR. MABUSE (B. Vale) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres OXFORD COUNTESS (S. Price), which was inclined to lay out, had to be steadied and was inconvenienced in trying to avoid the heels of MAGIC PROSPECT (NZ) (J. Marks), which rolled in as it commenced to weaken.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow S. Price, rider of OXFORD COUNTESS, to view the official print for third.

Subsequent to the race DR. MABUSE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 – SUPA CHEAP HANDICAP:

B. Vale, who had struck his ankle in the previous race, was examined by the Club Doctor and passed fit to ride.

RACE 8 – SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2002 (Heat 4):

VAN DER HAAR (S. Price) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres MIGHTY HAWK (J. Lyon) shifted in, tightening CHARTIER (B. Vale) onto SAN QUEEN (B. Claridge), inconveniencing that mare and taking it in onto HENRYSEE’S GOLD (H. McKechnie), which was hampered and forced to steady off the heels of POSSUM DIXON (C. Buchiw). As a result, CHARTIER became unbalanced and was forced to steady and lose its position.

J. Lyon was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding and suspended for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday 16th March and expire at midnight 26th March 2002. A period of five meetings.

Shortly after this incident, in attempting to avoid heels, HENRYSEE’S GOLD (H. McKechnie) became unbalanced and shifted out, tightening SAN QUEEN (B. Claridge) onto CHARTIER (B. Vale), which was taken out and made heavy contact with VAN DER HAAR (S. Price), which became unbalanced.

Approaching the 900 metres POSSUM DIXON (C. Buchiw) was obliged to steady and shift in and away from the heels of MIGHTY HAWK (J. Lyon), which shifted in, resulting in KEDRON (W. Kerford) being tightened and losing its position.

POSSUM DIXON sustained a laceration to its off hind leg during the race.

As a result, EMMATINE and NOBLE CALLING were checked and lost their positions. D. Tootell, rider of EMMATINE, explained the mare was then reluctant to race, despite his riding during the early and middle stages of the race.
