Port Lincoln (SA) - Thursday 14 March 2002
Track: Good
Weather: Fine
Rail: True

RACE 1 – ORIGIN ENERGY MAIDEN PLATE:

RIVER CHI (J. Lorensini), which was slow to begin, raced wide throughout.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres OLD SEA SALT (M. Neilson) shifted out and as a result became unbalanced for a few strides.

After passing the finish line J. Lorensini (RIVER CHI) fell from his mount. After being examined by the Club’s Medical Officers, J. Lorensini was declared unfit to ride for the remainder of the day, as he was suffering from the effects of dehydration.

RACE 2 – CLIPSAL/SA BREEDERS INCENTIVE SCHEME TWO-YEARS-OLD PLATE:

LAPDOG (M. Hoppo), FORCE CONTROL (B. Vale) and KASHMIR KING (J. Marks) were slow to begin.

RACE 3 – CAPITAL CORP SABIS THREE-YEARS-OLD CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

LITTLE MISS LINA was re-handicap one kilogram following its win on Tuesday 12th March.

HILL SEA (M. Hoppo) jumped away awkwardly.

SUNESSE (B. Vale) was retired from the event in the vicinity of the 700 metres.

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that SUNESSE had suffered a pelvic injury.

RACE 4 – FIELDERS CLASS 4 HANDICAP:

SAN QUEEN was a late scratching at 11.12 a.m. by the Stewards, acting on Veterinary advice that the mare was suffering from a cold.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the Patrol Film of the start, in conjunction with Jockey J. Holder and Trainer Mr. D. McMahon. After viewing the Patrol Film and acting on their own observations, Stewards declared HUG A MUG a runner and Correct Weight was duly declared.

HUG A MUG (J. Holder) reared as the gates opened and as a result lost considerable ground.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres SIMCEPT (H. McKechnie) shifted in and brushed the running rail and as a result became unbalanced for a short distance.

Subsequent to the race the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that ECKMEK had suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack. Mr. S. Drewitt, representing Trainer Mr. W. Drewitt, was advised that ECKMEK was now banned from racing for three months as required under ARR 53A.

RACE 5 – YALUMBA HANDICAP:

STAR AGLOW (J. Burgess) jumped out at the start and bumped IRISH JANTEE (W. Kerford), which was taken out onto EMERALD LAKE (M. Hoppo), which shifted out and inconvenienced WHISTLING LASS (J. Marks), taking that mare wider.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres WHISTLING LASS (J. Marks), which was pulling hard, had to be checked from the heels of OUR FESTIVAL TIME (NZ) (H. McKechnie).

J. Marks was questioned regarding his ride on WHISTLING LASS, particularly in the early and middle stages of the event. J. Marks advised the Stewards that he thought WHISTLING LASS would jump well and as a result, would either lead or race behind SUNBURY (M. Neilson), but he had been unable to take up an early position after being hampered at the start, when several horses on his inside shifted out. J. Marks further advised that when he had settled into a position in the field behind OUR FESTIVAL TIME (NZ) (H. McKechnie), WHISTLING LASS commenced to pull hard and over-raced and he was unable to shift out and make a run towards the lead, as MERRY CASH (C. Lindop) had moved to a position on his outside and at that point he had been held in a pocket for some distance and been unable to obtain a clear run.

Subsequent to the race the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that WHISTLING LASS returned sore in the near fore leg.

RACE 6 – CARLTON DRAUGHT PORT LINCOLN CUP:

Shortly after passing the winning post on the first occasion AL BATROUN (G. Dorol) shifted in onto CARNIVOROUS (Darren Holland), which in turn shifted in and tightened FIGHTING HARADA (C. Buchiw), resulting in that gelding having to be checked.

G. Dorol pleaded guilty to a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and was suspended for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday 16th March, until midnight Sunday 31st March 2002. A period of eight race meetings.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of ZOOMERATOR revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 – EYRE AUTO GROUP CLASS 6 HANDICAP:

MAGIC PROSPECT (NZ) (J. Marks), which was subject to a Veterinary inspection prior to the race, was passed fit to take its place in the field.

DENHOLM (B. Vale) jumped awkwardly.

RANGER SAM (B. Claridge) was slow to begin.

Over the concluding stages CASH LOAN (C. Lindop) shifted in and as a result RANGER SAME (B. Claridge) was inconvenienced.

RACE 8 – TOLL EXPRESS CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

SOULS (Darren Holland) was slow to begin.

STARBLAZER (B. Vale) jumped in at the start and bumped TELL SECRETS (B. Claridge), resulting in that mare losing some ground.

RUDI’S JOY (S. Lovegrove) was held up for a clear run for a short distance, in the vicinity of the 300 metres.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres DESERT SHADE (J. Marks) shifted in and as a result SOULS (Darren Holland) and SWAMP RAT (J. Holder), which had commenced a run on its inside, were hampered for a short distance. Shortly after DESERT SHADE shifted out and as a result TELL SECRETS (B. Claridge) was inconvenienced and taken out onto SEA THE WAY (W. Kerford).

J. Marks was advised to have his mounts under more control when riding them out to the line.

Over the concluding stages STARBLAZER (B. Vale) shifted in and inconvenienced SWAMP RAT (J. Holder).
