Supplementary Report: Gosford Wednesday 13 February 2002: Race 7: Expo Of
Yesteryear Vehicles Handicap 1200m: Trainer Mr S. Smith was fined $200 for failing to withdraw
Grandiser by the required time (LR36). RACE 1: Qantas Matt Burke Handicap 1400m Whistle Dixie was slow to begin. Jetonova jumped in at the start hampering Seesaw and I Say.
Britney and Silk Veil overraced rounding the first turn. As Honey Ryder improved to the outside of the heels of
Radiance Of Apollo rounding the home turn, Duchess Talaria shifted out away from Honey
Ryder resulting in I Say being taken wider. Duchess Talaria continued to lay out for the
remainder of the straight. Jetonova was unable to obtain clear running until passing
the 100m. It was reported that Twilight Moon had lost the off-fore
plate in running. When questioned regarding Honey Ryder racing mid-field, C.
Munce stated that the filly failed to show its normal early speed and he elected to take
up a trailing position rather than push his mount early. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Whistle Dixie
sustained a laceration to the inside of the off-fore cannon. When questioned regarding the performance of I Say, L.
Cassidy stated that after striking interference at the start he got back further than he
intended, then was trapped wide and pushed wider on the home turn, but nevertheless I Say
was disappointing in its failure to run on. A post-race veterinary examination of I Say
revealed no abnormality. A swab sample was taken. Trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse reported that
I Say will now be spelled. RACE 2: Qantas Chris Whitaker Handicap 1400m Salim's Tip was very slow to begin. At the 600m Full On Magic laid in resulting in Bond being
tightened. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Salim's Tip had
twisted the near-hind plate. RACE 3: Qantas Nathan Grey Handicap 1200m On jumping Lavishly was tightened for room between Defied
and Emerging Star, both of which shifted ground. A post-race veterinary examination of Fawayez, which
performed disappointingly, revealed no abnormality. B. Pengelly, rider of 2nd placegetter, Lavishly, was fined
$750 for weighing in 1kg overweight (AR145). RACE 4: Qantas Airways Wiggle Quality 1400m Lady Viola was slow to begin. Gwendolyn, which was slow to begin, had to steady off the
heels of Floridays shortly after the start when taken in by Gilded Wings. At the 900m Miss Doopsy had to be steadied off the heels of
Card Queen. In the early part of the straight Miss Doopsy was
disappointed for a run inside Card Queen. Near the 200m J. Cassidy (Danasia) was accidentally struck
over the arm by the whip of B. Cooper (Perfect Halo). It was reported that Floridays lost the near-hind plate
during running. When questioned, J. Cassidy (Danasia) stated that his mount
was inclined to get its head up and overrace badly throughout the early and middle stages
and refused to settle. He added that Danasia pulled its way forward and was trapped wide
throughout before compounding badly in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of
Danasia revealed no abnormality. When questioned, C. Munce (Gwendolyn) stated that his mount
was never travelling on the bit and he could offer no tangible reason for its
disappointing performance. Trainer Mr M. Lees advised that Gwendolyn had done well in the
stable since its win at Warwick Farm on 2 February and the stable was confident of its
prospects today. A post-race veterinary examination of Gwendolyn revealed no abnormality.
A swab sample was taken. Mr Lees was advised that before Gwendolyn is permitted to race
again a full veterinary report must be produced and the mare must barrier trial to the
satisfaction of the Stewards. RACE 5: Cabra-Vale Diggers' Club Hobartville Stakes
1400m Moonflute shifted out at the start and hampered
Checkered Past. RACE 6: Quasar Constructions Apollo Stakes 1400m Linking up with the course proper at the 1000m Freemason
had to steady off the heels of Referral (M. de Montfort), which shifted in. M. de Montfort
was advised to ensure he is fully clear when shifting in. Nanny Maroon got its head up and overraced badly throughout
the middle stages and ran wide rounding the turn at the 900m. Close to the finish line Referral had to be eased when Tie
The Knot was taken in by Huge Demand. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Fairway to be
lame in the near-fore leg. A veterinary clearance will be required before Fairway's next
race start. RACE 7: Qantas Phil Waugh Welter Handicap 1600m Thorns was slow to begin. Kaaptive Empress ran out badly at the start. Manner Hill,
which was held up for a run in the early part of the straight, was then hampered passing
the 100m when Gamesman shifted out under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Moolah
sustained a laceration to the off-fore pastern. RACE 8: Qantas Holidays Handicap 2000m Charo Style pulled hard in the middle stages. Hydromaster was badly held up and unable to be tested in
the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Paraway lost
its off-hind plate in running. When questioned, H. Bowman (Lion Rock) stated that although
the early pace was only moderate, the gelding never travelled well and although it
sprinted for a short distance, when asked for an effort at the top of the straight was
disappointing in its failure to run on. A post-race veterinary examination of Lion Rock
revealed no abnormality. A swab sample was taken. Trainer Mr G. Begg advised that the only
explanation he could offer was that Lion Rock was not suited by the slow early pace and
undertook to report to the Stewards on the progress of Lion Rock following the race. SUMMARY Fines: Gosford: Race 7: trainer S.
