 Supplementary Report:
Warwick Farm Saturday 2 February 2002 Race 6: Light Fingers Stakes 1200m Trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse tendered a veterinary report for
the filly Ha Ha, which performed poorly in this race. The report indicated that on
clinical examination Ha Ha appeared normal, however, on endoscopic examination of the
filly and a subsequent BAL (lung wash), there was evidence which indicated the presence of
a low-grade allergic respiratory disease. Ha Ha has subsequently been treated for the
condition. Race 7: Billy Cook Welter Handicap 1600m Trainer Mr J. Pride today tendered the results of blood
tests conducted on Conjuror, which performed poorly in this race. These blood tests did
not reveal any significant abnormalities and Mr Pride stated that as Conjuror had done
well in the stable since the run, it was his intention to continue with the horse's
program. RACE 1: Esanda Finance Handicap 1200m Snow Hero was slow to begin. Aubade jumped awkwardly. After the running of this race the track was
upgraded to slow at 1pm. RACE 2: Premier Express Freight Handicap 1900m Elton's Girl knuckled over on jumping. Kalalycia got its head up and raced ungenerously in the
middle stages when being steadied off the heels of Two Time Tart. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the
winner, Top Shot, trainer Mr C. Pearson stated that following a disappointing run at
Moruya on 21 January he put the blinkers back on Top Shot and it performed well at the
Sapphire Coast last Sunday 3 February coming from well back in the field in a slowly run
race to be beaten less than two lengths. He added that he backed up the horse today
because of the rain-affected track as 7 of Top Shot's 14 wins had been on rain-affected
going. RACE 3: Heartland Holden Millie Fox Stakes 1200m Dolce Veloce overraced throughout the middle stages. In
the straight Barawin was inclined to lay in and prove difficult to ride. L. Cassidy (Triko) was reprimanded for
permitting his mount to shift in passing the 200m resulting in Dolce Veloce being taken in causing Pirouettes to be
checked off the heels of Perfect Halo. Approaching the 150m, as Sophistocat endeavoured to take a narrow run between
Perfect Halo and Ouch, Sophistocat was inclined to lay in behind Ouch. Ouch (G. Ryan) then shifted out under pressure
resulting in Sophistocat having to be checked. G. Ryan was reprimanded and advised that whilst he was not fully
responsible for the incident, nevertheless in similar circumstances he must immediately stop riding and
straighten his mounts when they commence to shift under pressure. Dolce Veloce, which was fractious in its stall,
was found to have injured its mouth upon examination following the event. When questioned, R. Quinn (Agile)
stated that he was taken across to the fence early and with Pirouettes racing to his outside he was never in a position
to get off the fence until after straightening. He stated that by that time he was riding his mount along and as there
looked to be no option to improve between horses he switched back to the inside and the filly worked home reasonably
well. He stated that in his opinion Agile was now looking for more distance in its races. RACE 4: Sir James Silver Slipper Stakes 1100m Victory Vein jumped in at the start hampering Guinness. RACE 5: Heartland Holden Monaro Handicap 1200m Making the first turn Damowin had to be checked off the
heels of Red Hannigan when taken out by Cadastral. When questioned, rider J. Cassidy and trainer Mrs G.
Waterhouse expressed the view that Red Hannigan's disappointing performance was principally due to its
failure to handle the soft going. Mrs Waterhouse said that the horse had suffered from a small abscess to the inside of
the off-fore heel, which had necessitated the gelding being withdrawn from its engagement
last Saturday, but it had not missed any work and she was happy with its condition going
into the race. App. D. Evans (Damowin) pleaded guilty to a charge under
AR135(b) of having failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the
race on 2 nd placegetter, Damowin, to ensure his mount was given full opportunity to win.
The Stewards particularised, first, that in the first 200m App. Evans failed to ride his
mount to take up a forward position in compliance with the instructions given by trainer
Mr J. Denham and as a result Damowin took up a position back in the field. The second
particular being that rounding the home turn and at the entrance to the straight App.
Evans failed to position Damowin to the outside of the heels of Red Hannigan, which would
have allowed him clear running down the outside of the field in compliance with the
instructions given by trainer Mr J. Denham, such actions resulting in Damowin being held
up in the early part of the straight behind Cadastral and Schahriar. After taking into
account App. Evans' good record and his level of experience of 2½ years riding, 600 race
rides and 128 winners, the Stewards suspended his permit to ride in races for a period of
4 weeks to commence on Monday 11 February 2002 and to expire on Monday 11 March 2002 on
which day he may ride. RACE 6: Frederick Clissold Stakes 1200m Ms A. Trollope, representing trainer Mr P. O'Sullivan, was
fined $100 for not presenting the Document of Description for Galiano (AR59A). The Man was slow to begin. When questioned, C. Brown (Crawl) stated that his mount was
never travelling on the bit and that he shifted out shortly after entering the straight in
an endeavour to find better going, but was then held up behind Coincidence. He added that
after taking a narrow run between Coincidence and Galiano, Crawl ran home strongly, but
close to the line became unbalanced after receiving a bump from Fouardee, which shifted
out. RACE 7: Parramatta Leagues Club Parramatta Cup 2000m Kaapgun jumped awkwardly and lost ground as a result. Royal Circle was slow to begin. Near the 1500m Motiti Road was checked off the heels of
This Manshood, which was racing fiercely, and in doing so shifted out resulting in Plea
being crowded for room inside of Royal Circle. A short distance later This Manshood, which
continued to race fiercely with its head up, struck the heels of Zareyev and blundered. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Zareyev to have
been galloped on both hind legs. Near the 600m Grampians was momentarily crowded for room by
This Manshood, which was taken in slightly by Motiti Road. Splendid Retreat was held up for a run until near the 300m.
Near the 200m No Limit was disappointed for a run between
Manner Hill and Time Off. No Limit then was unable to obtain clear running for the
remainder of the event and consequently was not tested. Passing the 200m App. S. Pollard (Kaapgun) accidentally
dropped his whip. When questioned regarding the performance of Zareyev, B.
York stated that he was happy to take a sit behind the leader, Manner Hill, in the early
stages, but when the pace steadied appreciably in the middle stages Zareyev commenced to
race fiercely and then was left flatfooted when the field sprinted past at the 600m. He
added that whilst Zareyev was held up briefly behind Royal Circle and Motiti Road near the
200m, the gelding finished off its race only fairly. RACE 8: Holden Rodeo Handicap 1500m: Trainer Ms D. Poidevin-Laine was fined $100 for not
presenting Norman's Way on course by the prescribed time (LR46). Shoemaker was slow to begin. Rounding the first turn Kingwin hung out across the heels
of Shadowplay resulting in Summa Cum Laude being crowded for room inside of Yoruba. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of
Yoruba, B. Pengelly stated that he had intended to ride his mount quietly, and with the
slow early pace he endeavoured to go forward mid-race but was trapped wide. He added that,
nevertheless, Yoruba was disappointing in its failure to run on. A post-race veterinary
examination revealed Yoruba had been galloped on the off-hind leg. A swab sample was
taken. SUMMARY Fines: Race 6: Trainer P. O'Sullivan (Galiano)
