Rosehill (NSW) - Saturday 15 December 2001
Weather: Showery
Track: Dead

Race 1 - Rondo Building Systems Handicap (1100m)

Following the track downgrade at 8.15 a.m. permission was granted at 8.38 am for trainer Mr F.Cleary to withdraw Woodchip.

Silver Lode was slow to begin.

Architrave made the first turn awkwardly and got its head up.

Near the 800m Crass Catcher got its head up when over-racing and shifted out, inconveniencing Portfolios.

At about the 250m Well Informed had to be steadied when momentarily held up on the heels of Russell On.

Near the 200m Guinness was hampered when tightened for room between Silver Lode, which shifted out slightly, and Portfolios (C.Brown), which shifted in under pressure.

C.Brown was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mount.

Race 2 - BHP Zincalume Handicap (1100m)

Disco Time had difficulty obtaining a clear run when held up on the heels of De France in the early part of the straight.

When questioned about the disappointing performance of Real Silence, G.Ryan said that although he had to make a little use of the gelding early to get across from his wide barrier, Real Silence had disappointed in its failure to respond to his riding in the straight.

Ms S.Grills, stable representative of trainer Mr K.Swan, said she thought that Real Silence might have got its tongue over the bit and that the stable may experiment with a tongue tie prior to the mare racing again.

Ms Grills undertook to report to the stewards if there is anything amiss with Real Silence subsequent to the race.

A post-race veterinary examination of Real Silence revealed no abnormality. A swab sample was taken.

Race 3 - Onesteel George Ward Sheet & Coil Handicap (1200m)

No Limit blundered on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination of No Limit revealed no abnormality.

Making the first turn Beryl was momentarily tightened for room inside Roaring Forties, which was inclined to lay in.

Race 4 - Independent Locksmiths Superfecta (1900m)

As D.Mclellan was to be overweight, G.Buckley was substituted as the rider of Handy Ivor. D.McLellan was reprimanded.

Shortly after the start National Bid clipped the heels of Halls of Assembly, which was inclined to lay in.

When questioned about National Bid racing back in the field today N.Tomizawa said he was instructed that if he was caught wide he should not press forward.

Ms K.Moore, the trainer of National Bid, was reminded of her responsibility to inform the stewards of any change in race tactics.

Race 5 - Giddy-Up Christmas Fun Day Handicap (1400m)

Magnaforce, which was fractious in its stall, reared, and made contact with the front of its barrier.

Magnaforce was removed from its barrier, examined by the Club's veterinary officer and passed fit to start.

When the start was effected, the left hand gate of Magnaforce's stall was slow to open.

Near the 100m Harp of Tara shifted out away from Solitary Soldier and brushed My Tally.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed that Magnaforce had superficial lacerations to the lower edge of both jaw bones, a small abrasion over the right forehead and blood in the right nostril.

Race 6 - Merlot Constructions Christmas Cup (2,400m):

Lanolin pulled hard in the early stages when being restrained off the heels of Deerhill.

Approaching the first turn Power of Pegasus shifted in away from Gallant Pride, resulting in Zareyev being checked and taken out abruptly.

Pristine Partners and Majestically, which were following, were taken wide in consequence.

When B.Compton (Arrogant Ladd) took hold near the 1400m to allow Gallant Pride to cross to the lead, the pace slowed, resulting in Deerhill, which was pulling hard, having to be shifted out away from the heels of Arrogant Ladd, and in turn causing Power of Pegasus to be checked when taken out onto Zareyev.

At the entrance to the straight Deerhill was disappointed for a run between Daniel's The Man and Zareyev.

Majestically was held up for a run in the early

part of the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that Deerhill had a laceration to the off fore fetlock.

Race 7 - TJF Group Christmas Quality Handicap (1500m)

See The Gold was a late withdrawal at 11.45 a.m. when trainer Mr B.Murray reported that the mare was lame. Mr Murray will lodge a veterinary certificate.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when App.N.Tomizawa, the rider of fifth-placed Grampians, weighed in 1/2 kg light.

Under the provisions of AR.143 the stewards called for the bridle, which was added to the weight, and subsequently App.Tomizawa made his declared weight and correct weight was declared.

In a subsequent inquiry the only explanation App.Tomizawa could offer for weighing in light was that he had gone to the toilet after weighing out. App.Tomizawa was cautioned.

Grampians jumped awkwardly.

Race 8 - Independent Locksmiths NSW Superfecta (1400m)

Passing the 600m Spillway had to be checked when tightened for room between Hayden, which shifted in slightly, and Crop, which was taken out marginally by Sea Time, which shifted away from Moment's Folly, which also shifted ground.

SUMMARY

Reprimands:
Race 1: C.Brown was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mount.
Race 4: D.McLellan was reprimanded for being overweight.
Race 7: App.Tomizawa was cautioned for weighing in light.
