 RACE 1: Cabra-Vale 77 th
Birthday Handicap 1100m Yes She Can Cancan was slow to begin. At the start
Force Zulu jumped out and bumped King Of The Realm. RACE 2: Dave Humphries 20 Years President Handicap
1300m: Grand Juror was slow to begin. Mica's Pride and
Bestowed were crowded for room at the start between Time To Remember and Brisanna, both of
which shifted ground. Time To Remember was inclined to lay out under pressure in the
straight. RACE 3: Premier Express Freight Plate 1900m A post-race veterinary examination revealed Big Bal Bowski
was distressed and displaying a poor recovery rate. Trainer Mr G. Portelli undertook to
report to the Stewards if there was anything amiss with Big Bal Bowski in the days
subsequent to the race. RACE 4: Mike Howlin Memorial Superfecta 1500m Near the 300m Miss Anna Louise was disappointed for a run
between Impreza and Rotton Ron, which shifted out. At the same point Colin The Brave was
disappointed for a run inside of Nas Princess. When questioned, C. Munce (Miss Anna
Louise) explained that his instructions from trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse had been to take up
a position forward of mid-field, but after jumping from its wide barrier and coming back
in distance today the horse did not immediately show speed and he therefore elected to
come across and trail Pentathlon RACE 5: Life & Vet Members Handicap 1200m Trainer Mr M. Lees was advised that Klaxon, which proved
difficult to load, will be required to barrier trial prior to its next race start.
Gwendolyn was slow to begin. Near the 1100m Klaxon had to steady off the heels of Sassi
Switch (D. McLellan), which shifted in. D. McLellan was reprimanded and advised to ensure
he is two lengths clear when shifting ground. When questioned regarding the improved
performance of the winner, Kiveton, as compared to its 6th of 8 placing at Gosford on 10
April, Mr A. Duggan, representing trainer Ms K. Gavenlock, stated that Kiveton had had
only two runs at the stable, winning first up and then second up weakening badly after
sitting outside the leader in a solidly run event at Gosford. Mr Duggan was notified that
as Kiveton had now established form it would be expected to race accordingly. When
questioned why he went back to the inside in the early part of the straight, J. Sheehan
(Arrabeea) stated that at the entrance to the straight he was left flatfooted when the
eventual winner, Kiveton, improved to his outside. As he believed there was no opportunity
to obtain a run he elected to go back to the inside when he observed Klaxon shift away
from the rails. J. Sheehan stated that Arrabeea was briefly held up but then did not
respond as quickly as he would have wished and was again held up on the heels of Okanui
over the concluding stages. RACE 6: Do It At Diggers Cup 1100m Stormy Mo, which pulled its near-fore plate whilst in
the float en route to the track, was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 2.57pm. Matter Of
Honour missed the start slightly and was crowded for room shortly afterwards when Haunting
Spirit shifted out taking Matter Of Honour out onto Majestic Fiesta. Progress did not
obtain clear running until passing the 200m. Post-race veterinary examinations revealed
Progress had sustained an abrasion to the near-hind coronet and Sportsbrat had sustained a
cut to the off-fore pastern. RACE 7: Ron McBurney Superfecta 1200m Words Of Magic was a late scratching at 8.10am when it
was found to be lame in the off-fore foot. The Net jumped awkwardly. For some distance
leading up to the 900m The Net (App. T. Muto) persevered in an endeavour to improve to the
inside of Newington Style where there was insufficient room. At the 900m turn Newington
Style then shifted in resulting in The Net being severely checked. In the presence of his
master, Mr P. Perry, App. Muto was advised that in similar circumstances he must ensure
there is sufficient room before attempting to take a run. D. McLellan (Leander Hall) was
fined $500 for failing to ride 7th placegetter, Leander Hall, out right to the finish line
(AR137(b)). SUMMARY Fines: Race 7: D. McLellan (Leander Hall) fined $500 - not ride horse out to finish line
        (AR137(b)).
Reprimands: Race 5: D. McLellan (Sassi Switch) - shifting in (AR137(a))
Trials: Race 5: Klaxon (trainer M. Lees) - difficult to load.
