Sale (VIC) - Tuesday 16 April 2002
Track: DEAD
Weather: OVERCAST
Rail: Out 4 metres from 1200m to 1600m. Remainder true.

Riding Changes: Nil

Race 1 - GIPPSLAND BONUS SERIES MAIDEN PLATE 1100 metres:

When the gates opened "BLARNEY COMET" had to be checked when tightened for room between "SPIRITUAL PRINCE" and "MILWAUKEE BAY" which shifted out.

For the majority of the straight "TEDDY'S LUCK" had a tendency to hang in.

Approaching the winning post "KAKADU KING" shifted in and brushed "TEDDY'S LUCK".

Race 2 - CARLTON DRAUGHT MAIDEN PLATE 1600 metres:

On arrival at the barrier "MACHISMO" was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and was declared unfit to run. Acting on this advice Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "MACHISMO" at 1.19 p.m. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered the following betting deductions: All monies bet for a win and/or place on "MACHISMO" to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal of "MACHISMO" are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets 8 cents; place bets 9 cents; winning concession bets 8 cents; doubles bets 8 cents. As "MACHISMO" had bled from only one nostril the gelding was not deemed to be a bleeder.

In the middle stages of the race "TAN TAT JOY" over raced.

Approaching the winning post "DAGGER BOY" experienced some difficulty in obtaining a clear run.

Race 3 - AUTUMN MAIDEN PLATE 2200 metres:

Turning out of the straight "BRYDAN" got its head up and had to be checked off the heels of "MY QUEEN (NZ)". Shortly after this "MODERATOR" had to be checked when tightened for room by "ZABEELIA ROSE (NZ)" which was taken in slightly by "MASTER SHOWBOY" (R. Waymouth) which shifted in. R. Waymouth was severely reprimanded and was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Near the 1400 metres "ZABEELIA ROSE (NZ)" when shifting out to obtain a run accidentally clipped the heels of "MASTER SHOWBOY" and almost fell. "MODERATOR" which was following was hampered in consequence.

Prior to correct weight V. Duric, rider of "DERRINGER", the third placegetter, along with Mr F. Salanitri representing Mr J. Salanitri, trainer of "DERRINGER", wished to view the Steward's patrol video and T.V. versions of the race before deciding to lodge an objection against "WHITE OAK" being declared the second placegetter alleging interference near the 500 metres and again near the 200 metres. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and after viewing the Steward's patrol videos and T.V. version of the race, Stewards upheld the objection. The amended placings being, "MY QUEEN (NZ)" first; "DERRINGER" second; "WHITE OAK" third.

It was established that near the 500 metres "DERRINGER" had to be checked off the heels of "WHITE OAK" which shifted in slightly, and that near the 200 metres "WHITE OAK" shifted out abruptly resulting in "DERRINGER" then shifting out away from that gelding.

Near the 400 metres "BRIEF CONFLICT" shifted out slightly and brushed the hindquarters of "ZABEELIA ROSE (NZ)" which also shifted in slightly resulting in "BRIEF CONFLICT" having to be checked.

Shortly after entering the straight "BRIEF CONFLICT" had to be eased off the heels of "ZABEELIA ROSE (NZ)" which shifted in slightly.

Race 4 - MAFFRA DAY MAY 4 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 metres:

In the mounting yard "RACER'S PLUME", which was fractious, reared up resulting in A. Masters, the mare's rider, being dislodged. After being remounted and when being led on to the track, "RACER'S PLUME" struck the gate and again dislodged A. Masters. "RACER'S PLUME" was then inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and as it had sustained an injury during the incident, acting on veterinary advice, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "RACER'S PLUME" at 2.31 p.m. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered the following betting deductions: All monies bet for a win/place and concession betting on "RACER'S PLUME" to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal of "RACER'S PLUME" are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets 21 cents; place bets 17 cents; winning concession bets 21 cents; doubles bets 21 cents.

The start of this race was held up due to the protest hearing in the previous race.

When the gates opened "AUTUMN STORM" sprawled and almost fell.

Race 5 - GIPPSLAND SPRINT SERIES HEAT 1 1100 metres:

No report.

Race 6 - "RACY LADIES" CLASS 3 F & M HANDICAP 1200 metres:

When the gates opened "SHENNIE" and "MISS ACADEMIC" came together due to both horses shifting ground. When the gates opened "HOPE TO PLAY " knuckled.

In the early part of the straight "MISS ACADEMIC" and "SERENE WATERS" raced tight for some distance.

Race 7 - TALI KARNG CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 metres:

Near the 100 metres "ARGENT RULER" shifted in and brushed "GAIDEL'S BID".

Race 8 - LICOLA CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1600 metres:

After the field was placed in the stalls "SPASMODIC" broke through the front just prior to the starter then releasing the field. The starter then declared a false start. All horses were then returned to the barrier and inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon. It was then the Veterinary Surgeon's recommendation that "ROYAL PINE", "SUPER COBRA (NZ)", "STAR OF SALE" and "STARFIRE GLOW (NZ)" were deemed unfit to run. Acting on this advice Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "ROYAL PINE", "SUPER COBRA (NZ)", "STAR OF SALE" and "STARFIRE GLOW (NZ)" at 4.56 p.m. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered the following betting deductions: All monies bet for a win and/or place on "ROYAL PINE", "SUPER COBRA", "STAR OF SALE" and "STARFIRE GLOW (NZ)" to be refunded; All successful bets on horses prior to 4.56 p.m. are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets 25 cents; place bets 25 cents; winning concession bets 25 cents; doubles bets 25 cents.
