ISHKHARA (J. Holder) knuckled as the gates were released and shortly after bumped with ABOYEUR (J. Maund), which jumped out at the start.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres WRAYBERN (B. Claridge), which was racing greenly, shifted in onto JACK HAVOC (S. Camilleri), which in turn shifted in and tightened SHIRAZ NOW (M. Hoppo), which had to be checked.

SHIRAZ NOW (M. Hoppo) was held up for a clear run between the 500 and 400 metres, and was again held up for a clear run in the vicinity of the 300 metres.

Stewards questioned Trainer Mr. M. Minervini and Apprentice C. Bryant regarding his riding of MALTHOUSE in today’s event. C. Bryant advised Stewards that his instructions had been to ride MALTHOUSE from back in the field, and from approaching approximately the 700 metres allow the gelding to move into the race without doing too much work to approximately the 300 metres, before riding the gelding home strongly over the concluding stages. Mr. M. Minervini confirmed those instructions although he felt that C. Bryant may have over-done the instructions to a degree, because he would have liked to have seen C. Bryant riding MALTHOUSE along to keep in touch with the field in the vicinity of the 600 metres. Stewards noted the explanations tendered and advised C. Bryant in future he would be expected to ride with more initiative.
