RACE 1 – MARY POTTER FOUNDATION HURDLE:

Jumping the hurdle in the vicinity of the winning post on the first occasion, JESTER’S EDGE (S. Pateman) dragged its hind legs through the hurdle and landed awkwardly.

BENYANG was eased out of the event by its rider J. Julian, after jumping the hurdle in the vicinity of the 800 metres.

Inside the 600 metres WINSOME WILLY (J. Wallace) was obliged to steady away from the heels of RYAZAN (J. MacMillan), which shifted in under riding.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of BENYANG revealed the mare was lame in the near fore leg.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of RHYTHM ROYALE (NZ) revealed the gelding had sustained an injury to its near fore suspensory tendon.

Mr. S. Gower, Trainer RHYTHM ROYALE (NZ), was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for a future event.

RACE 2 – CCI INSURANCES/SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD NMW HANDICAP:

JOHNYDANZ was withdrawn by Stewards at 7.58 a.m., acting on a confirmed advice from Mr. B. Dunn, the gelding’s Trainer, that it had sustained a laceration above its near fore leg.

KEEP THE NOTE (R. Faehr) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after shifted out onto the hindquarters of BLACK CURRENCY (W. Kerford).

In the vicinity of the 800 metres TOPAVIC (C. Lindop) shifted in onto ELSHALALIE (J. Potter), tightening that gelding in onto KEEP THE NOTE (R. Faehr), which was obliged to check and lose its position. C. Lindop was found guilty of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and suspended from riding for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday 24th March and to conclude at midnight on Wednesday 3rd April 2002. A period of five meetings.

At the entrance to the straight the saddle on BLACK CURRENCY shifted to the near side and disadvantaged its rider W. Kerford over the concluding stages.

Inside the 100 metres EL SHALALIE (J. Potter) raced greenly when attempting a run between BASIL STREET on its inside and BLACK CURRENCY on its outside.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of TOPAVIC revealed the filly was short in its action, and it exhibited signs of being sore in its shoulders.

RACE 3 – BERNARD BOOTH DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE:

BRIGHT BEAD (S Price), which was inclined to get its head up, raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the event.
