to avoid the heels of "SPEARDENT" which shifted in.
Approaching and rounding the home turn "ERBOURNE" was held up.
 M. Pay, rider of "CITY RHYTHM (NZ)", was reprimanded for failing to ride his
mount out to the winning post.
 J. Winks, rider of "SIR VINO ROSSO" stated that he eased his mount down over the
concluding stages as he was concerned that the gelding had made a strange respiratory
noise in the early part of the straight. J. Winks added that on pulling up "SIR VINO
ROSSO" appeared normal. A subsequent veterinary examination of "SIR VINO
        ROSSO" revealed no abnormalities.
During the running of the race "CITY RHYTHM (NZ)" suffered a bleeding attack.

Race 4 - DROUIN COMMERCIAL PRINTERS MAIDEN
PLATE (1) 1100 metres: Prior to the event Mr E. Musgrove, trainer of
"ARKMANN", lodged an ownership transfer and amended stable return showing the
nominators to be D.L. and C. Homann and W.F. Lowrie."KANGERONG JACK" was slow to begin. On jumping away "NO DEBATE" was
tightened for room between "SALESLADY" and "AUNTY ROBIN" due to both
        horses shifting ground.
Approaching the 800 metres "AUNTY ROBIN" and "SEKI SEKI" bumped due
mainly to "SEKI SEKI" shifting in.
After passing the 800 metres "AUNTY ROBIN" and "SEKI SEKI" were

        in slightly.
After passing the 600 metres "KANGERANG JACK" shifted in and brushed the running
        rail.
Just prior to straightening "OUR BLUE SIENNA" had to be eased when tightened for
room between "NO DEBATE" and "THORPY BOY" which shifted in slightly.
When being eased "OUR BLUE SIENNA" shifted out abruptly and took "SEKI
        SEKI" out off its course.
Over the concluding stages "PUGMOSS" had a tendency to lay in and proved
        difficult to ride.
Race 5 - MEENIYAN TRACTOR SERVICE MAIDEN PLATE
        (2) 1100 metres: Near the 900 metres "TEDDY'S LUCK", "ROBDON
MISS" and "CHAMPAGNE FIBEE" were all tightened for room between "THIEF
OF TIME" and "OUR ARCTIC CAT" which after initially being tightened for
room by "TOWN WATCHER" (J. Winks), then shifted in away from that gelding. J.
Winks was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. During the
incident "ROBDON MISS" became unbalanced, shifted in and made contact with
"CHAMPAGNE FIBEE". A.B. Robertson, rider of "TEDDY'S LUCK" was found guilty of a charge of careless
riding, the careless riding being that near the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift
in when not sufficiently clear of "ROBDON MISS" thereby taking that filly in on
to "LADY TIV" resulting in that mare being taken in across the running of
"THIEF OF TIME" which had to be checked.
As a result of "THEIF OF TIME" being checked "FIJI BABE" which was
following had to be severely checked and when being checked shifted out abruptly and
bumped "LADY TIV" which became unbalanced and almost dislodged its rider.
"WESTERN SEQUEL" which was following "LADY TIV" was hampered in
        consequence.
A.B. Robertson was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight
January 14, 2002 and to expire at midnight January 30, 2002.
When assessing the penalty Stewards took into account A.B. Robertson's excellent race
riding record and the fact that he had recently resumed to race riding following an
        injury.
In the early part of the straight "ROBDON MISS"
and "THIEF OF TIME" brushed on a number of occasions due to "THIEF OF

brushed "BIRD OF CAPRI" resulting in that filly having to be eased off the heels
        of "THE GALLOPING CHEF".
Prior to correct weight being declared N. Callow, rider of "ROYAL LAUGHTER" the
second placegetter, requested to view Stewards' patrol video of the final 200 metres of
the race with a view to lodging an objection. After viewing the video N. Callow lodged an
objection against "THE GALLOPING CHEF" being declared the winner on the grounds
of alleged interference from the 100 metres to the winning post. After taking evidence
from all of the parties concerned and after viewing all of the official videos, Stewards
upheld the objection. It was established that after passing the 50 metres "THE
GALLOPING CHEF" shifted out and hampered "ROYAL LAUGHTER" for a number of
strides. The amended placings being "ROYAL LAUGHTER" first, "THE GALLOPING
CHEF" second, "A THOUSAND DRINKS" third, "CANNES MOUGINS" fourth,

Surgeon and passed fit to run. W. Davis, rider of DAI RULER, which performed below
expectations, stated that the mare never travelled well throughout the race and was a
beaten horse upon entering the straight. W. Davis added that DAI RULER raced like a tired
horse and in his opinion may have been feeling the effects of recent racing. Race 9 - McCARTINS HOTEL LEONGATHA
CLASS 2 1600 metres: On jumping away "ZATOPEK (NZ)" was hampered by
"KILRUDDERY" which shifted out.Shortly after the start "STAR OF GEORGIA" and "RISING FINE" bumped due

air when being restrained off the heels of "OUR POIKA".
On the latter part of the home turn "MONDE TRIST" was held up for a short
        distance.
In the early part of the straight "OUR POIKA" shifted in and bumped "BLACK
WATCH" resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

        TRIST".

not proceed with an objection.Approaching the winning post "PIPERS HILL" shifted out under pressure and
        hampered "NOOKTAB".
 F. Villella, rider of "DARK WATERS" explained that he eased his mount out of the
race in the early stages as the gelding had attempted to buck for some distance. F.
Villella added that once DARK WATERS settled down and began to race more tractably he
continued on in the race. Subsequently Mr. B. Benbow, trainer of DARK WATERS was notified
