Also enroute to the barriers Noel Callow was dislodged from "Gifted To Fly" who then galloped to the barriers riderless before being caught. On arrival at the barriers "Gifted To Fly" was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

On jumping away "Sanderae Lass" was tightened for room between "Miramishee" and "Soviet Liaison", when both of those horses shifted ground.

In the early stages of the race "Gifted To Fly" commenced to buck for some distance and then was reluctant to race and for this reason Noel Callow eased the gelding down near the 600 metres. John H. Pratt, trainer of "Gifted To Fly", was notified that before the gelding would be permitted to start again "Gifted To Fly" must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an organised trial.

Race 2 - Sun FM Four Years Old & Up Maiden Plate 1400m

Rounding the home corner "Eem Cee Gee" and "Nincompoop" had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run.

Gavin Eades, rider of "Saki", stated to the Stewards that the mare didn't feel right in her action during the race. On return to the mounting yard "Saki" was uncoordinated in its action. Subsequent to the event the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that the mare was severely tied up behind. Graham Donaldson, owner/trainer of "Saki", was notified that before the mare would be permitted to start again "Saki" must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards and he also must produce a satisfactorily veterinary clearance for the mare before racing again.

Shane Tronerud, rider of "Sivas", stated to the Stewards that he didn't ride the mare out to the end of the race in his normal manner due to in his opinion "Sivas" was feeling the effects of a firm track. Shane Tronerud was reminded of his obligations of riding his mounts out to the end of the race.

Race 4 - Video Ezy Class 2 Handicap 2000m

The Stewards accepted the explanation of Ron Waddell, trainer of "Tigeron", for the late notification of Steven Vella as the rider of the gelding.

Race 5 - 3SR FM Summer Cup 1600m

Subsequent to the running of the race Stewards took evidence from Paul Didham, starter, Ian McIntosh, assistant starter, Neil Bath, barrier attendant and then viewed the head on video of the start to determine whether "Touch Of Mahogany" had be denied a fair start. It was established that "Touch Of Mahogany", prior to the starter releasing the field, took a lunge at the gates. When the starter released the field a barrier attendant took hold of "Touch Of Mahogany" in an attempt to stop the gelding from rearing. This resulted in "Touch Of Mahogany" losing considerable ground on jumping away. Stewards ruled that "Touch Of Mahogany" had been denied a fair start and declared the gelding a non-runner.

Stewards ordered all monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on "Touch Of Mahogany" to be refunded. All successful bets on horses are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win bets 16 cents; Place bets 18 cents; Winning concession bets 16 cents; Doubles bets 16 cents.

A veterinary examination of "Harvey" subsequent to the event revealed no abnormality.

Prior to the race, when mounted, "Flying Heights (NZ)" threw itself down in the mounting yard. Enroute to the barriers "Flying Heights (NZ)" struck the running rail and dislodged its rider Luke Nolen. On arrival at the barriers "Flying Heights (NZ)" was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run. Gerald Egan, trainer of "Flying Heights (NZ)", was notified that an official warning was being recorded against the gelding and if "Flying Heights (NZ)" behave in a similar manner it may lead to some action being taken against it.

Approaching the 1100 metres "Our Pretender", which was over-racing, had to be checked off the heels of "Frangipani" (Vincent Caddy), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. When shifting in Vincent Caddy then eased, which resulted in "Our Pretender" having to be eased off the heels of "Frangipani" for some distance. Vincent Caddy was severely reprimanded and notified that he must exercise far more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in future.

Approaching the 900 metres "Caritta": was reluctant to hold its position and had to be checked when racing tight on the inside of "Wind Storm".

After passing the 200 metres "I’m Electrik", which was weakening, was tightened for room by "Wind Storm" who was taken in by "Shasmin" (Michael Travers) who took a run where there was barely sufficient room on the inside of "Frangipani", which shifted in slightly and away from "Desert Falcon". As the interference was not contributed to any one rider Stewards took no action but notified Michael Travers, rider of "Shasmin" to ensure he has room when taking runs in future.

Jamie Anstice, rider of "Hefty", stated to the Stewards that after the horse knuckled at the start he did not ride the gelding in his normal manner as in his opinion there was something amiss with the "Hefty’s" action and "Hefty" may have hurt himself when knuckling at the start.
