Race 1 - Class 3 Handicap - 1150m

On jumping away Little Giant knuckled. At the entrance to the straight Uncle Willy (P. Robl) shifted out to obtain a run where there was insufficient room between Pipers Hill and Full Speed Ahead (E.Marchant) resulting in Full Speed Ahead being bumped and becoming unbalanced. Full Speed Ahead then shifted in and bumped Uncle Willy on two occasions resulting in both those horses becoming unbalanced. P. Robl was reprimanded and notified that he must ensure that he has sufficient room when attempting runs in future and E. Marchant was also notified to exercise more care in future.

Race 2 - Maiden Plate - 1150m

Tic Macada dislodged its rider J. Keating in the mounting yard and collided with another runner. Tic Macada was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon at the start and passed fit to run. Shortly after the start Allumette commenced to buck for some distance which resulted in the mares' rider (R. Booth) pulling her up out of the event. Mr P Den Hertog managing owner and trainer of the mare was notified that Allumette was now suspended from racing until such time as she trials to the satisfaction of Stewards in a trial. Approaching the 700m Palace Lad was hampered when tightened for room by Agreeance, which was taken in slightly by Micase. Near the 500m Forest Creek had to be checked when tightened for room by Micase which rolled in when shifting ground and weakening. Shortly after this incident Micase which was proving difficult ride then rolled out and tightened Azeezal onto Tic Macada which had initially shifted in slightly. As a result of Azeezal being tightened that mare then clipped the heels of Tic Macada and fell. Subsequent to the event the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that Azeezal was lame in the near foreleg.

Race 3 - 2YO Handicap - 1100m

On return to scale B Rawiller rider of Speech 3rd placing wished to view the Stewards patrol film with the view to lodging an objection. After viewing the Stewards patrol film B Rawiller lodged an objection against Leisure winner of the race, for alleged interference from the 600m to the winning post. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and viewing all patrol footage available the Stewards dismissed the objection. It was established that after passing the 600m Speech became unbalanced when racing close to the heels of Leisure and near the 400m was inconvenienced by Leisure which shifted in slightly. Mr R Symons trainer of Luminaire 5th placing requested to view the photo finish for 4th. After viewing the photo Mr Symons agreed with the Judge's placing and correct weight was declared. Foxy Trouble was slow to begin. In the middle stages Uncle Speed hung out. Rounding the home corner Luminaire hung out.

Race 4 - Maiden Plate - 1400m

On return to scale B Rawiller rider of Caspa 2nd placing wished to view the photo finish for first placing. After viewing the photo B Rawiller agreed with the Judge's placings and correct weight was declared. Near the 600m Meg's Dancer and El Volar came together on two occasions.

Race 5 - Handicap - 1400mue Eyes

On return to scale B Park rider of Ol' Blue Eyes 3rd placing wished to view the Stewards patrol film in the straight with the view to lodging an objection in company with Mr P Guy Manager Heritage Bloodstock owner and Mr S Webb trainer of the gelding. After viewing the film B Park or the connections wished to lodge an objection. Correct weight was then declared. P Robl rider of Walk On Ice, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Never Dull resulting in that gelding being tightened in onto Ol' Blue Eyes resulting in Never Dull & Ol' Blue Eyes being severely hampered. P Robl was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence midnight March 26, 2002 and to conclude at the end of the day meeting on April 11, 2002. Stewards took into account P Robl's excellent race riding record when determining penalty. Shuttle Mission (NZ) was slow to begin. Stuart Webb trainer of Ol' Blues Eyes 3rd placing was reprimanded for changing the girth on the gelding which resulted in B. Park its rider weighing in one kilogram over his declared weight.

Race 6 - Class 1 Handicap - 1150m

Throughout the event Miss Vittoria hungout and continued to hangout rounding the home turn and hampered Claquettes. Near the 100m Pyritical and Doolam Player brushed due to both horses shifting ground.

Race 7 - Class 2 Handicap - 1600m

Near the 100m Miramishee, which was laying in had to be eased off the heels of Market Unit which shifted out slightly.

Race 8 - 3YO Maiden Plate - 1600m

Shortly after the start Spring Rocket commenced to buck for some distance and then continued to buck resulting in Clowning Around. Which was racing inside Spring Rocket being severely hampered and losing considerable ground. As a result of Spring Rocket bucking it also lost considerable ground. Leeanne Smith trainer of the gelding was notified that Spring Rocket is now suspended from racing until such time as the gelding trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a trial.

RANDOM SWABS WERE TAKEN FROM THE FOLLOWING WINNERS:-

Race Two - Shamrock's Joy, winner.
Race Four - Rocky, winner.

Swab samples were taken from the following winners:

Race Three - Leisure.
Race Six - Will Jazz.

Pre-race blood samples were taken from the following horses for post race analysis:

Race Four - Northern Century, El Volar, Tolago
Race Eight - Kingston Spring, Rich Nugget, Starcove Dancer.
