Tumby Bay (SA) - Sunday 13 January 2002

Track: Good
Weather: Overcast
RAIL: In normal position

RACE 1 – TUMBY BAY HOTEL CLASS 4 HANDICAP:

No report.

RACE 2 – GRAND TASMAN HOTEL/SABIS MAIDEN PLATE:

SYNCHRONICITY was a late scratching by order of the Stewards when no rider was available.

ZETAS was a late withdrawal at 2.04 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice after that gelding reared in the gates and hit the ground heavily.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on ZETAS be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 15 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 15 cents in the dollar.

SP Bets were subject to the deductions.

WOOD PILE (C. Tyler) was slow to begin.

SAMARRA LADY (J. Marks) jumped away awkwardly and was very slow to begin.

RACE 3 – WEST END BREWERY DISTANCE CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

B. Grimston replaced A. Stead as the rider of ASTRO TRAVELLER, owing to A. Stead being injured.

ASTRO TRAVELLER (B. Grimston) travelled very wide throughout the event.

Stewards questioned Ms. Annette Morrison, Trainer of ASTRO TRAVELLER, regarding her instructions to Apprentice B. Grimston. She confirmed her instructions that B. Grimston was to keep wide as the horse would not race on the fence or in behind other horses. Stewards noted Ms. Morrison’s explanation.

RACE 4 – TONY’S TUNA TUMBY BAY CUP:

The start of this race was delayed fifteen minutes due to the track being over-watered and at the request of the Riders to give the track time to dry out sufficiently to be safe for riding.

RACE 5 – SEA BREEZE HOTEL/SABIS CLASS D HANDICAP:

WALK TALL (C. Tyler) showed a tendency to hang out throughout the event.

SWABBING:

Race 4 TOP CHANCE (winner)

The Stewards Room
