Race 1 - SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1) (1000 METRES)

As PANAQUA had sustained a serious wound to its brisket en route to the course and was unfit to start on Veterinary advice Stewards withdrew the filly from the event at 11.20 a.m.

Stewards delayed correct weight to ascertain whether WORLD OF DREAMS' starting gate had opened correctly. As Michelle Payne rider of WORLD OF DREAMS was unavailable due to being examined by medical staff the Stewards interviewed L. Sheedy (Starter), P. Doherty (Assistant Starter) and Mr. Pat Cannon foreman for Russell Cameron Trainer of WORLD OF DREAMS. After viewing the Stewards' patrol film of the start, it was established the starting stall attendant had hold of WORLD OF DREAMS when the start was effected and the near side starting gate swung back considerably and severely hampered that filly on jumping away resulting in Michelle Payne WORLD OF DREAMS' rider becoming unbalanced and being dislodged. As the Stewards were satisfied that WORLD OF DREAMS had been denied a fair start Stewards withdrew the filly from the event at starting time 12.30pm..

Subsequently all monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on WORLD OF DREAMS withdrawn by Stipendiary Stewards at 12.30 p.m. to be refunded.

All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal of WORLD OF DREAMS are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:

WIN BETS; 21 cents PLACE BETS; 17 cents WINNING CONCESSION BETS; 21 cents DOUBLES BETS; 21 cents

All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.

Near the 400 metres ELYTRA BID shifted out away from BABY BLUES and hampered KINGSTON ECKO.

Near the 100 metres SAGACIOUS MOVER shifted in towards the running rail and became unbalanced.

SAGACIOUS MOVER again became unbalanced approaching the winning post.

Mr.G. Baker Trainer of BABY BLUES (fourth place getter) was severely reprimanded for adding a rubber girth cover to the filly's gear which contributed to Ben Smith weighing in one kilogram over his declared weight.

Race 2 - SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (2) (1000 METRES)

HEROIC FRAAR took charge of its rider L. Meech while doing its preliminary and galloped to the start. Acting on Veterinary advice that HEROIC FRAAR was unfit to run Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HEROIC FRAAR at 1.03 p.m.

Subsequently all monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on HEROIC FRAAR withdrawn by Stipendiary Stewards at 1.03 p.m. to be refunded.

All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal of HEROIC FRAAR are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket;

WIN BETS; 8 cents PLACE BETS; 9 cents WINNING CONCESSION BETS; 8 cents DOUBLES BETS; 8 cents

All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.

Acting on a report from the Starter that MARTELLA proved difficult to load into the starting stalls, and as a result contributed to the start of the race being delayed, Stewards notified Kerry Denney Trainer of the filly that a warning was being placed on MARTELLA for her behaviour today, and should she perform in a similar manner in future. She may be suspended from racing for a period. Ms. Denney was further notified that she must produce a barrier certificate for the filly prior to her starting again.

In the straight MARTELLA raced greenly.

Race 3 - FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

On jumping away ARGYLL and TYLIN were both tightened for room between KAARLA which was bumped in by CAPITULATION and ALMIGHTY ZENA which shifted out. As a result of ARGYLL being tightened for room that filly then clipped the heels of TYLIN and knuckled.

Near the 600 metres BORZOI DOLL was hampered when tightened for room by ARGYLL and MY ABERLEEN both which shifted ground slightly.

When BORZOI DOLL was hampered in this incident KAARLA which was following was also hampered in consequence.

Near the 300 metres BORZOI DOLL became unbalanced when tightened for room between CAPITULATION and TOUCH OF HEART which were both shifting ground slightly.

Race 4 - MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

On return to scale the clubs veterinary surgeon reported that TAFFETA PRINCESS sustained an injury to its near hind leg.

On jumping away FAIRWAY EXPRESS and RUBY SONG bumped.

Near the 1000 metres JUST JUBILANT which was laying out accidentally clipped the heels of TAFFETA PRINCESS which was laying in.

Rounding the turn near the 800 metres BORRACHOSO commenced to hang out. BORRACHOSO then continued to hang out badly resulting in its rider C. Robertson pulling the gelding up out of the event. Mr. J. Tarin Trainer of BORRACHOSO was notified that an official warning was being placed on the gelding for his behaviour today and should it behave in a similar manner in future it may be suspended from racing for a period.

Near the 100 metres AYRFORDMAN was hampered when tightened for room between TAFFETA PRINCESS which was laying in and TITANTIC SECRETS which shifted out slightly.

Race 5 - HYLAND SPORTSWEAR CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

Stewards delayed correct weight to ascertain whether GOLDEN ARCHES' starting stall had opened correctly. It was established that GOLDEN ARCHES starting stall had opened correctly and the mare stood flat-footed when the gates opened and lost considerable ground. Mr. R. Wilson Trainer of GOLDEN ARCHES was notified an official warning was being placed on the mare for her behaviour today and should she behave in a similar manner in future she may be suspended for a period.

Race 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT COBDEN CUP (1400 METRES)

On jumping away TEEKAYO knuckled.

G.Murphy rider of MR. LANCELOT was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of DANCE WIDDIS resulting in that gelding being tightened onto REGROUP resulting in REGROUP being hampered and DANCE WIDDIS having to be checked severely. G. Murphy was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight 7th February, 2002 and to expire at midnight on 22nd February, 2002. As a result of this interference OUR SLICK PRINCE, GENERAL FEELGOOD and WILLY WORK which were following, were hampered in consequence.

In the straight ARCH FIEND was accidentally struck on the head on two occasions by the whip of G. Murphy rider of MR. LANCELOT which shifted out under pressure. G. Murphy will be notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Also in the straight GENERAL FEELGOOD and OLOKAI had some difficulty in obtaining clear runs.

Race 7 - G. SMITH CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Correct weight was delayed as D. Yendall rider of BEAUQUEST explained to the stewards that the barrier blanket on his mount did not come off correctly when the start was effected and he believed his mount was denied a fair start. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and viewing the Stewards' patrol video the Stewards were of the opinion that the barrier blanket had come off correctly and that BEAUQUEST was a runner in the event.

After passing the 700 metres LINTRICE was hampered when tightened for room by MY KIRANA (M. Payne) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Ms M. Payne will be reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. ABLE KANE which was following was hampered in consequence.
