Race 1 - OPEN HURDLE (2950 METRES)

The start of the race was delayed due to the late arrival of the ambulance.

SIR OSCAR jumped the crossing turning out of the straight.

After jumping the obstacle near the 1400 metres REJECT fell. PRINCE RULES which was following was brought down and SIR OSCAR being hampered.

Race 2 - SUPER VOBIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

Acting on a report from the Starter who explained that UMBER proved difficult to load into its barrier stall Mr. K. Smith Trainer of UMBER was notified that an official warning would be placed against UMBER and prior to the filly racing again he must be in receipt of a Barrier Test Certificate for the filly. As a result of this incident the start of the race was delayed.

When the gates opened BAZZA GOLD jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start SILICON VALLEY was inconvenienced when tightened for room between WELL VERSED and BAZZA GOLD which shifted in slightly.

In the early and middle stages of the race BAZZA GOLD raced greenly.

After passing the 600 metres BAZZA GOLD had to be eased to avoid the heels of MISS OASIS which shifted in slightly.

Race 3 - SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (DIVISION 1)(1000 METRES)

When the gates opened MIM MIMP was slow to begin.

Over the concluding stages of the race RUSTY'S REVENGE hung in resulting in its rider L.Dowson being unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner.

Race 4 - SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (DIVISION 2)(1000 METRES)

Prior to correct weight Mr.G. Cameron Trainer of MISTER ZED and R. Cartwright rider of the gelding wished to view the video of the start of the race as in their opinion they believed MISTER ZED had been denied a fair start. After viewing the film and hearing submissions from the parties concerned Stewards deemed MISTER ZED had gained a fair start and correct weight was declared.

Approaching the winning post VELVET EDGE shifted out towards CULZEAN. C. Massey rider of CULZEAN (2nd place getter) was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his horse out to the end of the race.

Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that MISTER ZED sustained a laceration to its mouth.

Race 5 - CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

On jumping away INDECORUM and INALA STAR came together.

Approaching the 400 metres HAWAIIAN EYE had to be eased off the heels of OFFICER which shifted in slightly.

Race 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 4 HANDICAP (1850 METRES)

Near the 1400 metres SPANISH STEPS which was over-racing shifted out to avoid the heels of MARTIAL RULE.

Race 7 - CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

After being placed in its barrier stall HOLLYBROOK STAR reared and became cast. DEVON DANCER, GO TAIUT and BRIDGE MASTER then broke through the front of the starting stalls and galloped for some distance before being captured, as not to cause an unreasonable delay stewards ordered the withdrawal of DEVON DANCER, GO TAIUT, BRIDGE MASTER at 3.12pm. HOLLYBROOK STAR was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who deemed the gelding unfit to take it's place in the field. Acting on this advice Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HOLLYBROOK STAR at 3.12p.m. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered the following in relation to betting all monies bet for a win, place and concession betting on DEVON DANCER, GO TAIUT, BRIDGE MASTER and HOLLYBROOK STAR be refunded. All successful bets on the placed horses prior to the time of withdrawal of the above are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket; WIN BETS; 41. PLACE BETS; 36. WINNING CONCESSION BETS; 41. DOUBLES BETS; 41. All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.

Acting on a report from the Starter regarding the behaviour of HOLLYBRO OK STAR, after being placed in its barrier stall, Mrs. Sue Ellis Trainer of HOLLYBROOK STAR was notified that an official warning would be placed against the gelding and prior to racing again HOLLYBROOK STAR must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards

Subsequent to the race the clubs veterinary surgeon reported that HOLLYBROOK STAR had sustained an injury to its near side stifle. Stewards notified Mrs S Ellis that prior to HOLLYBROOK STAR racing again she must be in receipt of a vet's certificate of fitness.

Near the 300 metres OTTEY was inconvenienced when tightened for room by JESTER LANE and BOGHASI due to both horses shifted ground slightly.

Race 8 - CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

When the gates opened DESERT HEIR was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start WANGOOM WONDER was hampered when tightened for room between PEGTON and IT'S ON AGAIN due to both horses shifting ground slightly.

Near the 600 metres PEGTON had to be checked to avoid the heels of CHANGSHA which shifted out. Shortly after this BIG DEMAND when over-racing had to be checked off the heels of SKYFAIR.

Race 9 - MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

When the gates opened VERITABLE FOLLY was slow to begin.

M. Evans rider of CABELLO (NZ) explained to the Stewards that he eased the gelding down in the early part of the straight as he believed that something had gone amiss with CABELLO (NZ). Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported no abnormalities with CABELLO (NZ) .

FINES & EXPLANATIONS

Race 4 - R. Cartwright rider of MISTER ZED was fined the sum of $200-00 for unnecessary use of the whip on the gelding.

Race 8 - Mr. Rick Maund who was representing his father Mr. Ron Maund today was fined the sum of $100-00 for failing to produce the Document of Description for THE MULE'S BROTHER (NZ) which was having its first start in Victoria today.
