Race 1: A.C.C. Christmas in the City Handicap

COUNTBACK (S Price) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres PALAGIA (G Dorol) and NASSI DOLL (B Claridge) brushed together, and shortly afterwards NASSI DOLL (B Claridge) was accidentally struck across the head with the whip of J Lorensini, rider of PRETTY EDGY.

A routine swab sample was taken from COUNTBACK, winner of the race.

Race 2: Zonta Adelaide Handicap

prior to this event VENGADAME was inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon and was ruled fit to start.

VERSE LAGO (S Price) was inclined to rear as the gates opened and jumped away awkwardly.

FLASH HENRY (J Lorensini) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, taking NANCY ELEANOR (T Creek) out onto TAIPAN ANNIE (D Azis), resulting in TAIPAN ANNIE being inconvenienced and NANCY ELEANOR losing its position.

In the vicinity of the 700 FLASH HENRY shifted out and brushed TAIPAN ANNIE (D Azis).

NANCY ELEANOR raced greenly in the early stages, and after improving outside the heels of CYCLES (W Kerford), inside the 600 metres, commenced to lay in badly. T Creek, rider of NANCY ELEANOR, reported that over the precluding 100 metres NANCY ELEANOR was inclined to lay in to an extent that she proved difficult to ride.

A routine swab sample was taken from THANKS A BUNDLE (J Maund), winner of the race.

Race 3: Zonta Para Districts Handicap

Near the 500 metre mark CORPS COMMANDER (J Holder) shifted in onto EXALTED LAD (J Nevin).

Racing to the 400 metres EXALTED LAD (J Nevin), when attempting a tight run inside CORPS COMMANDER, was taken in by that gelding, resulting in EXALTED LAD being taken in onto the hindquarters of STAND BY ME (C Buchiw), which were turned and as a result STAND BY ME shifted out, resulting in EXALTED LAD becoming severely unbalanced and losing its position.

J Holder was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a), in that he permitted his mount to shift in and failed to attempt to relieve that pressure over some distance. J Holder was suspended from riding for a period of three meetings, commencing at midnight on December 5th and concluding at midnight on Wednesday 19th of December 2001. A period of three metropolitan meetings.

A routine swab sample was taken from CORPS COMMANDER, winner of the race.

Race 4: Zonta Adelaide Flinders Handicap

Approaching the finish ASTROLANTE (J Lorensini) shifted out and brushed ALL THE ACTION (G Hoobin).

When questioned regarding his riding of ALL THE ACTION, G Hoobin explained that in the early part of the race he had attempted to obtain a position one off the fence behind EVANS (T Creek), however due to the positioning of ASTROLANTE (J Lorensini), he was unable to do so and was obliged to race three wide. G Hoobin stated that in the vicinity of the 1400 metres he had become aware that he would be unable to obtain cover, and had made an assessment that the pace of the race was not as genuine as he would have liked. He added that he had elected to sit three wide, as he believed that taking his mount back in the field was not an option due to the pace of the race, however had decided not to press forward to obtain a position closer to the fence, because he believed that he could not have done so prior to the 800 metres, whereafter he would be concerned that more pace would come into the race, to his mount’s detriment. Stewards advised G Hoobin his explanation was noted, however informed him that in future he would be expected to display greater initiative than he had on this occasion.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of ALL THE ACTION failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

A veterinary inspection of DEACONESS, following the race, revealed the mare had severely damaged its off foreleg during the race.

Mr B Searle, trainer of DEACONESS, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required for the mare before it accepted for future events.

A routine swab sample was taken from INFLEWINZER, winner of the race.

Race 5: Zonta Adelaide Hills Handicap

THESE DAYS (j maund) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1000 metres STITCH IN TIME (T Creek) shifted in and tightened PRINCESS TAYLAH (B Vale), which was obliged to steady for a short distance.

Shortly afterwards THESE DAYS (J Maund) got its head up and made the turn off the back straight awkwardly, became unbalanced shifting out, taking PRINCESS TAYLAH (B. Vale), HOIST SAIL (J Lorensini) and TASS (W Kerford) wider on the track.

PRIMED FOR GLORY (C Buchiw) got its head up for a short distance near the 600 metres.

A routine swab sample was taken from LATTE, winner of the race.

Race 6: Zonta Gawler Districts Handicap

KAZOO (NZ) (j lorensini) was slow to jump.

Approaching the 1300 metres DEE’S DANCER (P Gatt) was obliged to steady off the heels of HOUSE GUEST (S Price), which had been taken in by ALL CHEER (D Azis). D Azis was severely reprimanded and advised in future to give riders the room to which they are entitled.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres DEES DANCER (P Gatt) got its head up when being restrained off the heels of HOUSE GUEST.

Approaching the 400 metres JUROMA (S Camilleri) was held up for a short distance before being disappointed for a run inside DEES DANCER (P Gatt). In attempting to improve its position, JUROMA had shifted out onto DEES DANCER, taking that gelding out onto LUCY’S GIFT (B Vale), which was tightened onto KELTRITA (J Maund) and lost its position. After being disappointed JUROMA shifted out and inconvenienced LUCY’ GIFT (B Vale).

Inside the 400 metres HOUSE GUEST (S Price) shifted out onto ON THE SNIP (J Nevin).

S Camilleri, rider of JUROMA, was questioned regarding her riding of the gelding over the concluding stages. After considering the explanation S Camilleri was severely reprimanded and advised in future to rider her mounts to the finish of a race.

Correct weight for this event was delayed to allow C Buchiw, rider of KING CROW, to view the official head on film of the concluding stages.

A routine swab sample was taken from ON THE SNIP, winner of the race.

Race 7: Zonta Noarlunga Southern Vales Handicap

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of AFTER BUENE (M Hoppo) revealed the mare had jarred up in both forelegs.

Near the 300 metres MADE FOR REAL (D Tootell) rolled in, at the same time as DANCERKOV (B Claridge) rolled out, resulting in those geldings making contact.

A routine swab sample was taken from OUTSIDE THE SQUARE winner of the race.

Race 8: International Year of Volunteers Handicap

ADDITION (B Claridge) was withdrawn by stewards at 3:42 pm, acting on Veterinary advice, that the gelding was exhibiting signs of colic.

M Hoppo, rider of MOOTIARA, reported to Stewards that inside the 700 metres. when SNIPALLAH (G Hoobin) improved to his outside, MOOTIARA had commenced to over-race and rather than work against his mount he had elected to stride forward.

After entering the straight MAWHOOB (S. Price) was unable to obtain clear ground until 50 metres from the finish.

UNDERTONE (J. Lorensini) was held up for a short distance near the 200 metres.

A routine swab sample was taken from DIMNESS, winner of the race.
