Victoria Park (SA) - Saturday 6 October 2001

Track: Dead
Weather: Overcast/Cool
Rail : Normal position

RACE 1 : MAID & MAGPIE HOTEL HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from BELTELLO, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 900 metres CULLEN BAY (J. Lorensini) shifted in resulting in AMBERLIGHT (T. Creek) being inconvenienced. J. Lorensini was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres JIMMY’S EDGE (Darren Holland) was forced to change direction to avoid the heels of the tiring KING KEEPERS (B. Vale).

B. Vale, rider of KING KEEPERS, reported to Stewards that the gelding had travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event but when placed under pressure shortly after entering the straight, had changed stride and became unbalanced resulting in the gelding losing considerable ground. A veterinary inspection of KING KEEPERS following the running of the race revealed no visible abnormality.

PETITE ETOILE suffered puncture wounds to the off fore cannon during the running of the race.

Following the running of this race J. Lorensini was examined by the Club’s Surgeon and ruled unfit to ride in Race 2.

RACE 2 : THE MAGIC MILLIONS FULHAM PARK PLATE

W. Hokai replaced J. Lorensini as the rider of LITTLE RAJ.

A swab sample was taken from WYNDAM GLORY, winner of the race.

On jumping away WYNDAM GLORY (P. Gatt) jumped outwards abruptly; at the same time COBAMUSE (D. Azis) jumped inwards slightly, resulting in both SLICK MAGIC (Darren Holland) and HYDROMETER (C. Lever) being tightened for galloping room.

RACE 3 : THE MAGIC MILLIONS DEQUETTEVILLE STAKES

A swab sample was taken from PRESUMED INNOCENT, winner of the race.

RED LABELLE (L. Nolen) jumped away awkwardly resulting in that filly being slow to begin.

On jumping away PRESUMED INNOCENT (P. Gatt) jumped outwards onto WE WILL ROCK YOU (Darren Holland) who in turn was taken out onto HAPPY RAJA (J. Holder) resulting in that filly being taken out onto HALO AMORE (W. Hokai). At the same time NANCY ELEANOR (J. Bowditch) jumped inwards and as a result HALO AMORE, HAPPY RAJA and WE WILL ROCK YOU were all tightened for galloping room with HAPPY RAJA eventually being forced to lose its position.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres RED LABELLE (L. Nolen) shifted out resulting in that filly brushing WE WILL ROCK YOU (Darren Holland) who in turn was taken out, making contact with NANCY ELEANOR (J. Bowditch), resulting in that filly becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

RACE 4 : TOUCAN HOTEL GROUP HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from FLYING FLEA, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres FLYING FLEA (W. Kerford), which commenced to race fiercely, shifted out whilst being restrained resulting in COMFORTS (Darren Holland) being forced wider on the track.

RACE 5 : THE SLOWDOWN HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from SOUTHERN WAY, winner of the race.

SHUTAYR (D. Smith) was disappointed for a run for some distance in the vicinity of the 400 metres.

Stewards questioned W. Hokai, rider of ROSES AND WINE, regarding the performance of that gelding today. W. Hokai reported to Stewards that the gelding had travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event and although three wide for the majority of the race, he had not become concerned as the gelding had cover and as a result he elected to maintain his position in the field. W. Hokai further stated that inside the 600 metres he had placed the gelding under pressure where ROSES AND WINE had responded for a very short distance but from that point on had failed to respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of ROSES AND WINE following the running of the race revealed lameness in the near foreleg.

A veterinary inspection of MY DECISION (NZ) following the running of the race revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Mr. B. Stanaway, trainer of the gelding, reported to Stewards that the gelding’s best form had been on heavy and slow tracks and he believed the dead rating today had contributed significantly to the poor performance of MY DECISION (NZ).

RACE 6 : MCGUINNESS MCDERMOTT FOUNDATION SPRINT

A swab sample was taken from NIAVNEK, winner of the race.

RACE 7 : CARLTON DRAUGHT 1600

A swab sample was taken from BURLEIGH, winner of the race.

RACE 8 : A.F.C. PAST PLAYERS HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from DEE’S DANCER, winner of the race.

NOTHING BUT GOLD (D. Azis) jumped away awkwardly.

Rounding the home turn OFFICE BOY (P. Gatt) shifted out resulting in OUR KING COUNTY (B. Vale) becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

DARK BANNER (C. Lever) showed a tendency to lay in over the concluding 300 metres of the event placing that rider at a disadvantage.

GENERAL:

Stewards questioned Mr. B. Stanaway, trainer of MY DECISION (NZ) regarding his behaviour and demeanour towards Dr. B. Agnew, official Veterinary Surgeon for the Club, after Dr. Agnew had been directed by the Stewards to carry out a veterinary inspection on the gelding. After taking evidence from Mr. Stanaway and Dr. Agnew, Mr. Stanaway was advised that his behaviour towards an official of the Club today was totally unacceptable and would not be tolerated in future. A report in relation to the matter would be forwarded to the Victoria Racing Club.

The following horses were pre-race blood tested for the purpose of TCO2 testing:

Race 5: ROSES AND WINE, MY DECISION (NZ), PALING GAGAH, ROSE OF SIENA, ANOTHER PRINTER, LET’S ADJEUNE, SHUTAYR, SOUTHERN WAY and STRIKING PLUME

Race 7: EASY LANDING, SUPER LAD (NZ), MUSTINAIR, GLITZY GURU, BURLEIGH, JETWAY and I KEN.
