Victoria Park (SA) - Saturday 15 September 2001
Track: Dead
Weather: Fine
Rail: Normal Position

RACE 1: HIGH LANE FARM – FALAK HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from FRAAR MAGIC, winner of the race.

FRAAR MAGIC (W Hokai) was slow to begin.

Stewards questioned B. Vale rider of ENTROPY, and that mare’s trainer Mr. D. Dodson, in relation to the poor performance of the mare today. B. Vale reported to Stewards that ENTROPY had shown a tendency to over race in the early stages of the event and as a result of instructions given to him, he had allowed the mare to roll forward resulting in him being caught wide for some distance of the race. B. Vale further stated that when asked for an effort in the vicinity of the 500 metres ENTROPY had failed to respond to his riding. B. Vale further stated that he had formed the opinion that ENTROPY had not backed up from a hard run at Cheltenham on 8 September 2001 and had raced like a tired horse. Mr. Dodson reported to Stewards that ENTROPY had been in work for some considerable time and in viewing the race he had formed the opinion that the mare had trained off. A Veterinary inspection of ENTROPY revealed a lower respiratory tract infection. Mr. Dodson advised that ENTROPY would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 2: OAKSIDE PARK STUD – DEVARAJA HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from OUR SUCCESS, winner of the race.

SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ) (D. Tootell), which had been extremely restless in the stall prior to the start, was slow to begin.

OUR SUCCESS (J. Bowditch) jumped outwards at the start resulting in ASIAN WARRIOR (L. Smith) being inconvenienced.

ANOTHER GEM (D. Carney) showed a tendency to lay in badly in the straight.

A Veterinary inspection of SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ) following the running of the race revealed an abrasion to the off-hind leg.

RACE 3: GLENLOGAN PARK – KBENJAR HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from YOUNG BLOOD, winner of the race.

SPANISH ARMS (K. Helms) jumped outwards at the start resulting in HOUSE GUEST (S. Price) being taken out onto ELAVION (C. Lever) who in turn was taken out and made contact with the hindquarters of FREAK OUT (W. Kerford) resulting in that gelding being turned inwards.

PATAUDI (C. Symons) was slow to begin.

Following the running of this race D. Carney was examined by the Club’s Surgeon and ruled unfit to ride for the remainder of the meeting.

RACE 4: AMPULLA LODGE – BRACKENBURY HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from COCUS, winner of the race.

WORK AND PLAY (J. Bowditch) shifted out abruptly at the start resulting in ASSUME THE CROWN (P. Gatt) being taken out and making contact with JAMATRE (M. Hoppo) resulting in that gelding being tightened for galloping room and making contact with the hindquarters of KEDRON (J. Maund) causing that horse to turn inwards. As a result of the shift, JAMATRE was forced to lose its position.

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres JETWAY (D. Azis) shifted in when insufficiently clear of KEDRON (J. Maund) resulting in that gelding being tightened for galloping room and then eventually being forced to ease to avoid the heels of JETWAY. D. Azis was subsequently charged with Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and after being found guilty of the offence was suspended from riding for a period commencing at midnight on the 19 September and to expire at midnight on 1 October 2001; a period of two metropolitan meetings.

RACE 5: YALLAMBEE STUD – KENNY’S BEST PAL HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from HIP HOP, winner of the race.

On jumping away BELLEDICTION (J. Nevin) jumped outwards; at the same time IMPERIAL TRISK (S. Price) shifted in slightly, resulting in BLOW THE BUDGET (D. Tootell) being hampered between those two horses.

Racing in the vicinity of the 1200 metres RASS BRIGHTIA (C. Lever) showed a tendency to lay in and away from MYSTIC GREY (P. Gatt). In consequence, EVENT HORIZON (W. Hokai) was tightened for galloping room for a short distance. C. Lever was advised that although not totally responsible for the incident he would be required to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled.

W. Hokai, rider of EVENT HORIZON, dropped his whip in the vicinity of the 100 metres. That rider was advised that a repetition could lead to a fine being imposed.

A Veterinary inspection of BLOW THE BUDGET detected soreness over the near shoulder.

RACE 6: LINDSAY PARK STUD – GENERAL MONASH HANDICAP

W. Kerford replaced D Carney as the rider of BAUDIN.

A swab sample was taken from ZED FILES, winner of the race.

YOUNG SCARLET (S. Price) jumped away awkwardly resulting in that mare shifting in and making contact with REFLEXES (B. Claridge).

Racing in the vicinity of the 1000 metres KING CROW (Darren Holland) shifted in slightly resulting in YOUNG SCARLET (S. Price) being forced to ease. YOUNG SCARLET showed a reluctance to hold its position in the field for some distance after this incident.

Racing to the 200 metres ASTROLANTE (S. Cahill) shifted in slightly resulting in KEYMARK (P. Gatt) being taken in and tightening the tiring COPERTINO (C. Lindop). S. Cahill was advised of his obligations under similar circumstances.

RACE 7: LAKEWOOD STUD – HAPPY GIGGLE HANDICAP

The start of this race was delayed due to MARKADA, which was fractious in its stall, undergoing a Veterinary inspection which passed that gelding fit to take its place in the field.

A swab sample was taken from VARGNA, winner of the race.

IRISH JANTEE (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly.

A Veterinary inspection of COURT HERO (NZ) revealed that gelding was showing signs of tying-up.
