 RACE 1:
YALLAMBEE STUD HANDICAP MY CENTANA (C Puls) was slow to
jump. Racing to the 400 metres, NIGHTS UPON
US (S Price), when attempting a run inside KELTRITA (J Maund), shifted out and contacted
that filly which became unbalanced for a short distance. Shortly afterwards NIGHTS
UPON US was disappointed for that run as a result of SOEUR BLEU (J Holder) rolling out
under pressure which resulted in NIGHTS UPON US having to be steadied off the heels
of SOEUR BLEU. Inside the 200 metres PALAGIA (G Dorol)
shifted in under riding and as a result DALLAENI (W Kerford) was obliged to shift ground
to its outside. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of DALLAENI revealed that filly to be slightly lame in the near foreleg. A routine swab sample was taken from SOEUR
BLEU, winner of the race. RACE 2: MARSH HANDICAP RENDELSHAM STAR (B Claridge) jumped
away awkwardly and shifted out inconveniencing SILENT ENCOUNTER (P Gatt). RENDELSHAM STAR (B Claridge) raced greenly
throughout the race and at various stages proved difficult to ride. From approximately the 700 metres BRANDY
CRUSTER (S Cahill) was inclined to lay in and on several occasions shifted in and away
from IMPULSIVE REALITY (J Bowditch), which raced on its outside. Inside the 200 metres SPUNKIE (D Azis)
shifted out and inconvenienced CARNDONAGH (J Nevin). Near the 100 metres SPUNKIE (D Azis)
shifted out and contacted RENDELSHAM STAR (B Claridge) resulting in that gelding being
taken out and brushing IMPULSIVE REALITY (J Bowditch). In consequence, BRANDY CRUSTER (S
Cahill) was obliged to steady off the heels of RENDELSHAM STAR (B Claridge). Correct Weight for this race was delayed to
permit S Cahill, the rider of BRANDY CRUSTER, to view the official film in the straight.
After having done so, Correct Weight was declared. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of RENDELSHAM STAR revealed that gelding to be mildly shin sore in both
forelegs. BRANDY CRUSTER suffered a minor laceration
to its near hind fetlock during the race. A routine swab sample was taken from
SPUNKIE, winner of the race. RACE 3: PMP PRINT HANDICAP DUKATTI GREY (D Carney) stood in
the gates and missed the start. BAROSSA BROADWAY (H McKechnie) jumped very
awkwardly. Near the 700 metres AUTUMN BELLE (W
Kerford) was obliged to steady off the heels of MIGHTY RAJA (D Azis), which shifted out. D
Azis was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. A routine swab sample was taken from ZIP
ZIP ARAY, winner of the race. RACE 4: JAYCO CARAVANS HANDICAP INKALMULLA (NZ) (J. Nevin) threw
its head up on jumping away and shortly afterwards was inconvenienced when tightened for
room by COCUS (P Gatt), which was taken in by STARBUCKS (D Carney). D Carney was reminded
of is obligations when shifting ground. In the vicinity of the 400 metres MOET NOW
(J Maund), which was inclined to lay in under pressure, shifted in and brushed ON THE SNIP
(T Creek), which was inconvenienced. In consequence RED ASTAIRE, which was trailing ON THE
SNIP, was inconvenienced for a short distance. A routine swab sample was taken from
STARBUCKS, winner of the race. RACE 5: O J SMITH CHALLENGE STAKES ASTROLANTE (J Lorensini) lost its near fore
plate during the race A routine swab sample was taken from AFTER
BEUNE, winner of the race. RACE 6: CITY OF MARION STAKES ROMILADA (Darren Holland) jumped
away awkwardly. Shortly after jumping away SPICE DOLL (J
Holder) lost its position when tightened by ROMILADA (Darren Holland), which was inclined
to shift in and away from APTEGO (T Creek), which shifted in. As Stewards deemed no one
rider was entirely responsible, no action was taken. Near the 400 metres SPICE DOLL (J Holder)
shifted in and inconvenienced KEN CHEVAL (Damien Holland). Approaching the finish DIMNESS (D Carney)
shifted out and brushed EXALTED LAD (W Kerford). Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of SPICE DOLL revealed no visible abnormalities. A routine swab sample was taken from SUZY
GREY, winner of the race. RACE 7: KPMG HANDICAP The start of this race was delayed owing to
RARE GOLD proving difficult to load. Mr M Kavanagh, trainer of the gelding, was advised
that a repetition of its behaviour would lead to action being taken against it. HENRYSEES GOLD (H McKechnie) got its
head up and became unbalanced making the turn out of the back straight. Stewards questioned S Cahill as to his
riding of SPRING WATER over the concluding 200 metres of the race. S Cahill explained his
mount travelled well to the 600 metres but thereafter had been under considerable
pressure. He stated that racing to the 200 metres he had attempted to race with MOOTIARA
(M Hoppo), which had improved on his outside, but his mount had struggled to maintain his
position. Inside the 200 metres MOOTIARA had shifted in slightly at the same time as RARE
GOLD (J. Bowditch) had rolled out slightly, inconveniencing his mount.. He added that he
had also become concerned about his mounts action shortly after, however, the
gelding had pulled up in a normal manner. S Cahill was severely reprimanded and was
advised that he would, in future, be expected to ride his mount to the finish of a race. Stewards questioned J Bowditch, rider of
RARE GOLD, as to that geldings performance today. J Bowditch reported that the
gelding was quite moody on the way to the gates, was difficult to load and had pulled hard
in the middle and early stages of the race. In his opinion RARE GOLD did not finish the
race off despite his riding. J Bowditch explained that he had carried the whip in his left
hand this time as RARE GOLD had previously been inclined to lay in when he had ridden it.
Stewards noted this explanation. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of RARE GOLD revealed no visible abnormalities. A Veterinary inspection of PENZANCE PIRATE
revealed that gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. A routine swab sample was taken from MARRON
CHEVAL, winner of the race. RACE 8: CHENEY DUTTON VOLVO HANDICAP In the early stages of this event
MY SKY ROCKET (B Claridge) got its head up and was inclined to race fiercely. Approaching the 400 metres MY SKY ROCKET (B
Claridge) was obliged to check to avoid the heels of GROWING (K Post), which was inclined
to lay in under pressure, at the same time as KAZOO (J Lorensini) shifted out under
riding. J Lorensini was advised he was given the benefit of a very grave doubt as to
whether he was solely responsible for this incident. A routine swab sample was taken from
NOTHING BUT GOLD, winner of the race. GENERAL Blood Samples were taken from the
following horses for the purpose of TCO2 testing: MY CENTANA, COUNTBACK, SOEUR BLEU,
DALLAENI, SOUTHERN WAY, INFLEWINZER, REQUIEM, ASTROLANTE, JAMESTOWN, RUSTY DUSTY GREY,
GROWING, NOTHING BUT GOLD, KING CROW, MATHESON BOY, ARJAYE and AT ALL TIMES. |
