Victoria Park (SA) - Saturday 20 October 2001

Track: Good
Weather: Fine
Rail: Normal Position

RACE 1: JOHN CURTIN HANDICAP

Stewards received an application from jockey J. Maund for a winning and/or losing riding fee for the horse MR LANCELOT. After taking evidence from that rider and Mr. C. Armytage, trainer of the gelding, Stewards advised J. Maund that in their view there was insufficient evidence to substantiate his claim.

A swab sample was taken from FLYING FLEA, winner of the race.

JEALTS EXPRESS (D. Tootell) was slow to begin.

DORADOS (P. Gatt) showed a tendency to lay in badly in the straight. As a result, that gelding and ASTROLANTE (J. Lorensini) bumped together approaching the winning post.

RACE 2: JOSEPH LYONS HANDICAP

Correct weight was delayed in being semaphored for this race to allow J. Holder, rider of second placegetter RED LABELLE, to view the official head-on film in the straight. After doing so J. Holder lodged an objection against WE WILL ROCK YOU being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the vicinity of the 300 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, on their own observation and on viewing the official video film of the race, Stewards dismissed J. Holder’s objection.

A swab sample was taken from WE WILL ROCK YOU, winner of the race.

On jumping away BLUE PRINCESS (S. Price) shifted in onto HALO AMORE (C. Lever), which was in turn taken in, making contact with HALO’S PRINCESS (J. Maund).

In the vicinity of the 300 metres, WE WILL ROCK YOU (Darren Holland), which showed a tendency to lay in throughout the race, shifted in, resulting in RED LABELLE (J. Holder) being inconvenienced. Shortly after BLUE PRINCESS (. Price) shifted out resulting in RED LABELLE being further inconvenienced. Stewards took no further action as they believed no one rider was responsible.

Over the concluding stages of the race Darren Holland, rider of WE WILL ROCK YOU, reported to Stewards that he had been unable to ride that filly out to the line owing to WE WILL ROCK YOU showing a tendency to lay in, which resulted in FLAWED LOGIC (. Creek) being inconvenienced racing to the line.

WE WILL ROCK YOU lost an off fore plate during the running of the race.

A Veterinary inspection of WE WILL ROCK YOU revealed that filly had suffered a laceration to the near hind leg.

A Veterinary inspection of RACHAEL’S PRIDE following the running of the race revealed shin soreness in both forelegs.

HALO’S PRINCESS suffered lacerations to the off hind fetlock during the running of the race.

RACE 3: BILLY HUGHES HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from CATLIGHT, winner of the race.

J. Bowditch, rider of NOIRE JACQUE, reported to Stewards that the gelding showed a tendency to lay in throughout the race.

KEGON (C. Lever) and CATLIGHT (J. Bowditch) both showed a tendency to lay in over the concluding 200 metres of the race.

RACE 4: ALFRED DEAKIN HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from CARLIN, winner of the race.

PIETA (C. Lever) jumped away awkwardly resulting in that mare shifting out and inconveniencing ROSE BEAT (NZ) (S. Price).

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres RASS BRIGHTIA (D. Tootell), whilst being eased, shifted in resulting in ROSE BEAT (NZ) (S. Price) being taken in and shifting away from that mare. In consequence, DELTRICE (G. Hoobin), which had been racing on the inside of ROSE BEAT (NZ), was forced to ease and lose its position.

RASS BRIGHTIA (D. Tootell) showed a tendency to lay in, in the straight.

RACE 5: ROBERT MENZIES HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from SCENICY, winner of the race.

ASSUME THE CROWN (T. Creek) showed a tendency to over race in the early stages of the race.

Racing inside the 200 metres A. Spiteri, rider of SILVER TALAQ, dropped his whip. A. Spiteri was advised by Stewards that a repetition may lead to disciplinary action being taken.

Racing inside the 200 metres, SILVER TALAQ (A. Spiteri) shifted in under riding resulting in GLITZY GURU (C. Buchiw) being taken in slightly. At the same time, that mare showed a tendency to shift in and away from SILVER TALAQ resulting in STRIKING PLUME (S. Price) being taken in onto the tiring BROWNLOW (J. Bowditch) resulting in that gelding having to be eased. A. Spiteri was advised by Stewards that although not entirely responsible for the incident he would, in future, be required to stop riding and straighten his mounts immediately they shift ground.

A Veterinary inspection of KILORA QUEEN following the running of the race revealed that mare was suffering from respiratory distress with a possible soft palate problem..

RACE 6: CITY OF ADELAIDE PQA CLASSIC

A swab sample was taken from FIELDS OF OMAGH, winner of the race.

EVANS (D. Carney) had difficulty in obtaining clear galloping room for some considerable distance racing inside the 200 metres.

RACE 7: EDMUND BARTON HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from SEDONIC, winner of the race.

GILDED STAR (A. Spiteri) was slow to begin

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres, JOHN’S BROTHER (J. Bowditch) shifted in resulting in HAND PASS (C. Lever) being inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres SEDONIC (G. Hoobin), when disappointed for a run, was forced to ease off the heels of ALL CHEER (D. Azis) and was momentarily tightened for galloping room between FLURRY’S GEM (T. Creek) and JOHN’S BROTHER (J. Bowditch).

RACE 8: JOSEPH CHIFLEY HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from HERACLES, winner of the race.
