WEATHER: Overcast
RAIL: Out 3 metres entire circuit (both tracks)

RACE 1 – WORLD WAR 2 HURDLE – 2800 metres

PAISANO (P. Kelly) was slow to jump.

HEX HEAD (G. Preston) struck the hurdle in the vicinity of the 300 metres on the first occasion and became unbalanced on landing.

FAIRWAY GAME (H. Jenkins) struck the fence in the vicinity of the 700 metres and landed awkwardly.

Near the 500 metres FAMOUS PIRATE (S. Pateman) shifted out and brushed TASSIE’S SHOUT (J. Julian).

PAISANO suffered a laceration to the near hind cannon during the event. First Aid as administered.

KASTABON (NZ) suffered a laceration to the off fore pastern.

Subsequent to the race FAIRWAY GAME was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was exhibiting signs of respiratory distress.

RACE 2 – MALAYSIA MAIDEN PLATE – 1250 metres

MOSSE (J. Holder) was slow to jump.

QUIET SMYTZER (P. Gatt) was inclined to rear on jumping away and was then hampered by CONSCIENCE (Darren Holland), which shifted out.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres CHIEF FRAAR (J. Potter) got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

Near the 800 metres CYCLONE DOLLY (C. Lever) was forced to steady off the heels of QUIET SMYTZER (P. Gatt) and lose its position, as a result of QUITE SMYTZER being taken in by MULTI WIN (S. Cahill), which was racing inside CHIEF FRAAR (J. Potter), which was inclined to shift about.

Inside the 200 metres FINA DAZE (NZ) (B. Vale) was obliged to shift out and away from the heels of THESE DAYS (T. Creek), which shifted out.

Subsequent to this event Stewards reassessed the track and altered the rating to DEAD.

RACE 3 – KOREA TWO-YEAR-OLD SPECIAL CONDITIONS HANDICAP – 1300 metres

TYRFING (C. Lever) was slow to jump.

Approaching the 1000 metres BLUE BUBBLE (W. Kerford), in being restrained off the heels of SHALINI (J Holder) which shifted in, got its head up, commenced to race fiercely and shifted out abruptly, obliging MOUNT KOSCIUSKO (NZ) (S. Cahill) and KOODA POLO (J. Potter) to race wide on that turn.

At the entrance to the straight AWAKENING (G. Dorol) became unbalanced and shifted in, contacting BARRENJOEY SUNRISE (P. Gatt), resulting in both runners being inconvenienced. In consequence TREELINE (S. Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of BARRENJOEY SUNRISE.

NIJINSKY PRINCE (M. Hoppo) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Near the 200 metres HYPERSONIC (J. Maund), in being eased away from the heels of TREELINE (S. Price), shifted out and brushed CLASSICAL ROCK (T. Creek).

Subsequent to the race BLUE BUBBLE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was exhibiting signs of respiratory distress.

RACE 4 – EAST TIMOR CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 2000 metres

Approaching the 400 metres BAITENHAUSEN (S. Cahill), after initially being tightened by OUR SHIVOO (S. Harrison) which was inclined to lay in, was eventually disappointed for a run inside that gelding as a result of VICTORIX (W. Kerford) shifting in, taking OUR SHIVOO in.

Approaching the 200 metres DAPPERSTAN (C. Lindop) was held up for short distance.

S. Price, rider of SOGNARE, explained that the gelding had not travelled as well as he had expected, and that inside the 1000 metres it had struggled to keep the back of GEIGER GOLD. He stated that despite niggling his mount from the 800 metres, it did not respond to his riding. S. Price added that on the previous occasions he had ridden SOGNARE it had travelled better in running and taken itself into the race. SOGNARE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the race BERNARDO BOY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was lame in the off fore leg.

RACE 5 – GULF WAR CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

J. Marks was questioned regarding his reasons for being overweight and having to forego his engagement on FOLLY DOLL in this event. After considering the explanation tendered J.

Marks was found guilty of a breach of AR 120(b) and fined $200. J. Marks was further informed, that should he appear before Stewards on a similar matter prior to the 31st May, he could expect Stewards would impose a weight embargo.

RORTING (D. Carney) was slow to jump.

TWIGGY SUMMIT (J. Lyon) shifted in on jumping and inconvenienced TYPHOON DOLLY (T. Creek).

STAR REBEL (T. Barras) hung out throughout the event.

STAR REBEL was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was lame in the off fore leg. Trainer Mr. M. J. Whittle was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required prior to accepting for a future event.

S. Price, rider of SAHAYB (NZ), explained that filly, in his opinion, had appeared to be unsuited in today’s ground. SAHAYB was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 – GALLIPOLI HANDICAP – 1450 metres

BROTHER MAYA (D. Tootell) was slow to jump.

LACHAIM (S. Price) and BRICKLIN’S BROTHER (C. Lever) brushed together on jumping away, and shortly after BRICKLIN’S BROTHER shifted in and contacted OLIVER BEER (NZ) (T. Creek).

Approaching the 400 metres MARRON CHEVAL (J. Maund) was held up for a short distance.

Inside the 400 metres HAND PASS (J. Holder) was held up for a short distance and then was unable to obtain clear running until inside the 100 metres.

RACE 7 – VIETNAM HANDICAP – 1450 metres

Inside the 400 metres SMOOTH AS SILK (J. Potter), in attempting to obtain a run, shifted out and brushed SEAVIEW ROAD (J. Holder), resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced and brushing again shortly after.

S. Price, rider of SHANGHAI MOON (NZ), reported that he could offer no explanation for the filly’s disappointing performance. SHANGHAI MOON (NZ) was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 8 – BORNEO CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1000 metres

After arrival on course CHALONNAISE (NZ) was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare was favouring its near fore leg. Acting on that advice CHALONNAISE (NZ) was withdrawn by Stewards at 3.42 p.m.

Mr. S. Gower was questioned regarding his late notification of rider for PRINCESS NICKY in this event. Mr. Gower was subsequently fined $50 for failing to have declared a rider by the required time.

WALAMA (NZ) (J. Potter) jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start WEDGETAIL EAGLE (S. Price) was taken out by ROYAL POINT (NZ) (B. Vale), which shifted out. WEDGETAIL EAGLE, on being taken out, shifted away marginally, tightening ATHINOULA (G. Dorol) onto the hindquarters of CAPTIVATE YOU (C. Lindop), resulting in that mare becoming severely unbalanced. As a result, CAPTIVATE YOU shifted back onto ATHINOULA, tightening that mare onto WEDGETAIL EAGE, which was taken in and forced to check off the heels of ROYAL POINT (NZ). B. Vale was severely reprimanded and advised to shift ground in future only when entitled to do so.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres BRIGHT ROCK (Darren Holland) shifted out and brushed AMACLASE (J. Maund).

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of CULLEN BAY failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the race AMACLASE was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported respiratory distress. AMACLASE was subjected to an endoscopic examination which revealed the filly to have pharyngitis.

Race 1 VOODOO SUNSET (winner), Race 2 THESE DAYS (winner), Race 3 SHALINI (winner), Race 4 GEIGER GOLD (winner), Race 5 ALENKO (winner), Race 6 DIMNESS (winner), Race 7 SADLER JOH (winner), Race 8 MONDO ROCK (winner).
