SHE’S GOT FLAIR (D. Azis) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out inconveniencing PRINCESS NICKY (J. Bowditch).

Approaching the 700 metres OUR FAME (J. Potter) was forced to check off the heels of SHE’S GOT FLAIR (D. Azis), which shifted in. D. Azis was severely reprimanded and advised, in future, to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled.

Inside the 600 metres OUR FAME (J. Potter) was held up when racing tight inside SCENICNICK (C. Bryant) and shortly after was held up whilst racing inside PRINCESS NICKY (J. Bowditch). J. Potter explained he had been obliged to wait until PRINCESS NICKY had cleared him before shifting to the outside to obtain clear ground.

Correct Weight was delayed to permit J. Potter, the rider of OUR FAME, to view the official Stewards’ footage of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, he declined to lodge an objection and Correct Weight was notified.

RACE 2 – PEWSEY VALE RIESLING HANDICAP 1000 metres

Stewards considered a submission from Mr. M. Minervini, the trainer of REFLEXES, regarding apprentice C. Bryant being unable to take portion of his allowance on the gelding. After confirming the engagement with C. Bryant, Stewards permitted Mr. Minervini to replace the apprentice.

J. Hallam was questioned regarding his reasons for being overweight on ORIENTAL TREASURE. After considering the explanation tendered, J. Hallam was advised that future breaches in relation to overweight would result in a penalty being imposed.

The start of this race was delayed owing to ZIGOMAR (J. Maund) breaking through the stalls. The gelding was quickly restrained and returned to the start where it was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who declared it fit to start.

REFLEXES (R. Faehr) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 600 metres KING CROW (J. Potter) shifted out and inconvenienced PRIDE OF TARLTON (C. Lindop).

RACE 3 – ALCOHOL GO EASY HANDICAP 1300 metres (Inner)

At the entrance to the straight MORE ACTION (C. Bryant) shifted out in an attempt to improve its position, applying pressure to EMPRESS WALTZ (J. Holder) resulting in that mare laying back onto MORE ACTION, which was taken in and forced to steady off the heels of EXALTED LAD (J. Maund). C. Bryant was reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 200 metres HAND PASS (M. Hoppo) was obliged to steady off the heels of PEAT BOG (W. Kerford), which had rolled in whilst weakening.

Over the concluding stages EMPRESS WALTZ (J. Holder) was inclined to lay in and away from INKAMULLA (NZ) (D. Carney) on its outside.

Approaching the finish MORE ACTION (C. Bryant), in attempting to obtain clear ground, contacted the hindquarters of HIGHTARI (J. Potter) resulting in that gelding rolling in under riding. C. Bryant was cautioned and advised, in future, to only attempt runs where there is sufficient room.

RACE 4 – FINESSE MODEL AGENCY HANDICAP 1450 metres (Outer)

Approaching the 1200 metres BELTELLO (D. Carney) was obliged to steady when tightened between CONTRIVED (M. Hoppo), which rolled in, and SOULS (J. Potter), which rolled out.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres ALENKO (J. Holder) got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

J. Holder, the rider of ALENKO, explained that prior to the race he had been concerned by the fact that the filly was backing up within seven days and during running had, in his opinion, raced like a tired horse. Mr. L. Macdonald, the trainer of ALENKO, confirmed the filly would now be spelled. ALENKO was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly was exhibiting a lower than normal heart rate.

CONTRIVED was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to have been galloped on in the region of its near hock.

RACE 5 – SA TAB ST. LEGER 2400 metres (Inner)

The start of this race was delayed due to SADLER JOH losing a fore plate. As the farrier was unable to straighten the plate the other fore plate was removed and SADLER JOH permitted to race bare in front.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary examination of GLITZY GURU revealed the mare had quartered its off fore heel.

RACE 6 – HONDA CIVIC HANDICAP 1800 metres (Outer)

Bryant had given Mr. Dodson the undertaking to claim 3 kg on HONOURABLE AMI, Stewards permitted Mr. Dodson to replace the apprentice. C. Bryant was fined $200 under ARR 85B in that he had been unable to fulfil his engagement on HONOURABLE AMI.

As the identity of OL’ BLUE EYES was confirmed by Stewards from their own records, the gelding was permitted to start. Mr. S. Webb, the trainer of OL’ BLUE EYES, was fined $50 for being unable to provide the Document of Description as required.

Leaving the turn out of the back straight the saddle on HOSTILE LAD commenced to shift and inside the 800 metres it shifted to the off side disadvantaging N. Tomizawa who eased the gelding out of the race near the 400 metres.

LOUOTTO (J. Holder) was held up for a distance approaching the 200 metres. J. Holder explained that near the 200 metres he had decided against the option of attempting a run, which had become available inside MOONGARA (C. Lindop) as, in his opinion, the gelding was struggling and he was concerned that it may roll back towards the running rail under riding and for that reason he took the option to shift to the outside.

Apprentice, J. Hallam, was questioned regarding returning to scale overweight after riding BUTKUS in this event. After considering J. Hallam’s submission, he was fined $100 under ARR 145.
