RACE 1 : UMATILLA/BLUE GUM FARM HANDICAP

In the vicinity of the 700 metres CHEVITA (Darren Holland) got its head up and raced fiercely for a short distance.

Inside the 400 metres MIGHTY RAJA (D. Azis) and SAVAGE ATTACK (B. Claridge) brushed.

MIGHTY RAJA (D. Azis) was inclined to lay out over the concluding stages and on several occasions shifted out and brushed SAVAGE ATTACK (B. Claridge).

RACE 2 : GREIG/KILORA STUD HANDICAP

TIA JANE, which sustained a cut to the inside of its mouth in the stalls prior to the race, was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

The start of this race was delayed owing to INTERWAVE becoming restless in the stalls and becoming cast. INTERWAVE was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who ruled the filly unfit to start. INTERWAVE was withdrawn by Stewards acting on that advice at 1.13 pm. Mr. B. Patterson, trainer of INTERWAVE, was advised that the filly was now suspended from racing until such time as it can trial to the Stewards’ satisfaction in an official barrier trial.

Stewards ruled that all bets on INTERWAVE be refunded; bets on other runners were not affected.

NISHIKAWA, which was in the stall adjacent to INTERWAVE, was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

NISHIKAWA (P. Gatt), GUCCI GURU (NZ) (J. Holder) and KELMARK (S. Cahill) all jumped away awkwardly.

GUCCI GURU (NZ) (J. Holder) raced greenly throughout the race.

KELMARK (S. Cahill) was inclined to race greenly in the middle stages of the race.

Approaching the finish MISS VODKA (T. Creek) shifted out and away from DARK HORIZON (W. Kerford), which had improved, on its inside. As a result GUCCI GURU (NZ) (J. Holder) clipped the heels of MISS VODKA and shifted out abruptly contacting the hindquarters of NISHIKAWA (P. Gatt), which became severely unbalanced.

On return to scale P. Gatt, rider of the fourth placegetter NISHIKAWA, requested to view the official video footage approaching the finish. After doing so, P. Gatt lodged an objection against the third placegetter MISS VODKA (T. Creek), on the grounds of alleged interference approaching the winning post. After considering the evidence, on viewing the official video footage and acting on their own observations, Stewards DISMISSED P. Gatt’s objection.

RACE 3 : INTERGAZE/WIDDEN STUD HANDICAP

In the vicinity of the 900 metres, MAD HARRY (L. Meech), whilst being steadied, got its head up and shifted out abruptly inconveniencing ASTROLANTE (B. Claridge), which was obliged to race wider.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres DARK BANNER (J. Holder) shifted in under riding and tightened PRINCE NASEEM (C. Lever) obliging that runner to be steadied. J. Holder was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Near the 100 metres ON THE NATCH (D. O’Heare) was disappointed for a short distance as a result of MAD HARRY (L. Meech) rolling in at the same time as OLONGOPO (S. Price) rolled out under pressure.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of OLONGOPO revealed no visible abnormalities. Mr. W. Peake, trainer of OLONGOPO, advised that the gelding would now be spelled.

PRINCE NASEEM sustained an injury to the off fore flexor tendon during the race. Mr. B. McLoughlin, trainer of PRINCE NASEEM, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required before the gelding accepted for a future event.

RACE 4 : BRACKENBURY/AMPULLA LODGE HANDICAP

DECORATIVE (D. O’Heare) jumped awkwardly.

BENARBER (J. O’Connor) got its head up and raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages and continued to race in that manner until the entrance to the straight.

Near the 500 metres OUR KING COUNTY (Darren Holland) got its head up when being steadied off the heels of ST. FRAAR (L. Meech), which rolled in.

A veterinary examination of LACHAIM following the running of the race revealed that gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Mr. T. Dabernig, representing Mr. A. McEvoy, trainer of LACHAIM, gave Stewards an undertaking to have the gelding vetted in the stable and to report the result of that examination.

A veterinary examination of STRETTA following the running of the race revealed no visible abnormalities.

MY SKY ROCKET (GB) suffered a small laceration to the near hind coronet during the race.

RACE 5 : TESTA ROSSA/YALLAMBEE STUD HANDICAP

STREET PARLOUR (D. Tootell) and MILITARY BANQUET (S. Price) brushed together on jumping away.

Near the 1000 metres SCENICNICK (C. Bryant) shifted in and away from SAVILLE’S ANGUISH (T. Creek) resulting in BRIEF TRUTH (M. Hoppo) being tightened and obliged to steady. In consequence SUNTURWASI (Darren Holland) was forced to steady off the heels of BRIEF TRUTH and shifted out abruptly inconveniencing VINTAGE SECRET (P. Gatt).

Near the 500 metres TOUCHARAJA (J. Potter) rolled in and brushed DEMOLITION DAME (C. Lindop), which became unbalanced. Shortly afterwards TOUCHARAJA, which commenced to race greenly, shifted out and contacted SUNTURWASI (Darren Holland), which was unbalanced.

SCENICNICK (C. Bryant) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of SCENICNICK revealed no visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of SUNTURWASI revealed the filly had sustained significant lacerations to the near hind tendon during the event requiring First Aid.

RACE 6 : ALCOHOL GO-EASY HANDICAP

EUBECHA (J. Lorensini) was slow to jump.

On jumping away LORD KINGSTON (T. Creek) was tightened between SPICE DOLL (J. Holder), which jumped inwards, and STAND BY ME (C. Lindop), which shifted out.

Racing to the 300 metres J. Holder, rider of SPICE DOLL, lost his whip. J. Holder was advised, in view of his good record, Stewards would take no action on this occasion, however, he was advised that future incidences of carelessness may lead to a penalty being imposed.

Near the 300 metres OUR JERMYN STREET (NZ) (P. Gatt) shifted out and contacted MARRON CHEVAL (B. Claridge). P. Gatt was advised by Stewards to take more care in similar circumstances.

J. Holder, rider of SPICE DOLL, was reprimanded by Stewards and advised, in future, to ride his mounts to the finish of a race.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of MANETTI revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 : KENNY’S BEST PAL/YALLAMBEE STUD HANDICAP

Inside the 700 metres MOET NOW (J. Holder) shifted out and brushed BAROSSA SCHOLAR (S. Price). Shortly after BAROSSA SCHOLAR shifted in and contacted MOET NOW, which became unbalanced.

M. Munday, rider of RUBITON ROAD, dropped his whip in the vicinity of the 300 metres. M. Munday was advised that future incidences of carelessness may lead to action being taken against him.

J. Holder, rider of MOET NOW, was advised to ride his mounts to the finish of a race. J. Holder was further informed that future incidences in this regard would result in a penalty being imposed.

On return to scale S. Price, rider of the fourth placegetter BAROSSA SCHOLAR, lodged an objection against the third placegetter MOET NOW (J. Holder), on the grounds of alleged interference at the entrance to the straight. After considering the evidence, on viewing the official video footage of the race and acting on their own observations, Stewards DISMISSED S. Price’s objection.

RACE 8 : DEVARAJA/OAKSIDE PARK STUD HANDICAP

DOUBLE VOODOO was withdrawn by Stewards at 10.30 am acting on confirmed advice from trainer, L. Harford that the mare was injured.
