Victoria Park (SA) - Saturday 27 April 2002

Track: Good
Weather: Fine
Rail: Out 3 metres entire circuit (both tracks)

RACE 1: KPMG RECRUITMENT HANDICAP – 1300m

ANTONOVA (J Patton) was slow to jump.

Shortly after entering the straight SACAGAWEA (H McKechnie) was inclined to lay in.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres, SACAGAWEA (H McKechnie) was taken in by BIOCARD (C Lever), which shifted in.

Approaching the finish SACAGAWEA (H McKechnie), whilst attempting a run between BIOCARD (C Lever), which was inclined to lay in, and FROTH AND BUBBLE (A Findlay), which was inclined to lay out, contacted the hindquarters of both horses resulting in all three runners becoming unbalanced. H. McKechnie was cautioned for attempting a run where there was doubtful room.

Correct weight was delayed to allow H McKechnie rider of SACAGAWEA and Mr B Cozamanis the trainer of that filly to view the official footage over the concluding stages. H McKechnie lodged an objection against the second placegetter BIOCARD (C Lever) and the winner FROTH AND BUBBLE (A Findlay) on the grounds of alleged interference from about the 100 metres. After considering the evidence and acting on their own observations of the official film Stewards found that SACAGAWEA had been denied a run owing to BIOCARD shifting in, in the vicinity of the 100 metres, and upheld that objection. The objection against the winner FROTH AND BUBBLE was dismissed, as Stewards believed H McKechnie had been the aggressor.

VIGNOR lost its near hind plate during the race.

J Lyon was advised in future to shift ground only when entitled to do so.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres, PURE SPARK (D Carney) shifted in under riding across the running of MISTER DISCREET (NZ) (C Lindop) resulting in MISTER DISCREET clipping heels and C Lindop unbalanced. In consequence, PEPPI THE PUG (T Creek), which was trailing MISTER DISCREET was severely hampered in attempting to avoid that gelding.
