RACE 1 – JEUNE AT LINDSAY PARK HANDICAP

ULTIMATE IRONY (D. Carney) and EDGING AROUND (J. Maund) were slow to jump.

Shortly after the start ULTIMATE IRONY (D. Carney) was inconvenienced when tightened by VOLLEY (Darren Holland), which jumped inwards after being fractious in the gates, and VICKSBURG (C. Bryant), which jumped outwards.

Near the 800 metres THAXTED RIDGE (D. Cleaver), which was inclined to race greenly and get its head up, was obliged to steady off the heels of LONGTIE VET (S. Cahill), which shifted in when being inclined to shift away from JUDANZO (J. Potter) on its outside. In consequence VICKSBURG (C. Bryant) raced greenly for a short distance.

THAXTED RIDGE (D. Cleaver) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding 200 metres. D. Cleaver confirmed this observation.

MATTY’S DREAM (J. Holder) was inclined to race greenly and lay in throughout the event. J. Holder reported to Stewards that he had difficulty in riding the gelding throughout the event and that at no stage was he able to place his mount under pressure due to it wanting to hang in. Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of MATTY’S DREAM revealed no visible abnormalities. Mr. L. Macdonald, the trainer of MATTY’S DREAM, was advised that the gelding would be required to trial tractably in an official trial prior to accepting for a future event.

JUDANZO lost its near fore plate during the race.

RACE 2 – RUSTIC AMBER AT HIGH LANE FARM HANDICAP

SOCIAL GLOW (J. Potter) was slow to jump and shortly afterwards was inconvenienced by NADELLA (S. Price), which shifted out.

PETRELLA (M. Hoppo) and DUCHESS DREAM (B. Vale) were both slow to jump.

CYCLES (W. Kerford) became unbalanced on jumping away and shifted in contacting MISS JAYLO (T. Creek).

RACE 3 – EL MOXIE AT EMIRATES PARK HANDICAP

PRIDE OF TARLTON (S. Price) jumped away awkwardly.

Inside the 1100 metres DANGEROUS REEF (M. Neilson) was obliged to ease when tightened by HIGHTARI (B. Claridge), which was taken in by JUROMA (N. Tomizawa). N. Tomizawa was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

J. Bowditch, the rider of ZED FILES, explained that the gelding had commenced well and, although taken three wide on the first turn, had settled under restraint and travelled well until being placed under pressure shortly after entering the straight. He stated that he was satisfied with his position at the entrance to the straight, however, he was disappointed that ZED FILES had not displayed as much dash as he would have expected when placed under pressure. Subsequent to the race ZED FILES was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported minor tenderness in both front fetlocks.

Subsequent to the race DANGEROUS REEF was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was exhibiting a lower than normal heart rate and respiratory rate.

ZEDIMBI jumped away awkwardly brushing the inside gate and unbalanced its rider, C. Bryant, for a short distance.

LITTLE MISS QUICK (NZ) (J. Holder) was slow into stride.

Approaching the 400 metres LITTLE MISS QUICK (NZ) (J. Holder) shifted out and tightened THESE DAYS (S. Price) onto BLEVITA (D. Carney) taking that filly out onto the hindquarters of DEMONDO (M. Neilson) turning that gelding in. J. Holder was severely reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 300 metres LITTLE MISS QUICK (NZ) (J. Holder) was inconvenienced when obliged to steady off the heels of DEMONDO (M. Neilson), which shifted in.

BAROSSA BROADWAY (S. Price) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out tightening MANGAN (D. Carney) onto JIVE ANGEL (D. Azis).

Shortly after jumping away HARSH PRAISE (J. Holder) and PETITE ETOILE (J. Bowditch) brushed.

Approaching the 300 metres GLENWEST (C. Bryant), whilst attempting to obtain clear ground to the outside of the heels of IDENTIFIABLE (B. Claridge), reacted away from that gelding’s heels, became unbalanced and lost ground. C. Bryant was cautioned against attempting runs where there is insufficient room.

MANGAN (D. Carney) raced greenly throughout the event.

Subsequent to the race BAROSSA BROADWAY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 – HAPPY GIGGLE AT LAKEWOOD HANDICAP

In the vicinity of the 300 metres RUSTY DUSTY GREY (J. Potter) was disappointed when attempting to improve inside BUFFALO POWER (J. Holder), which rolled in. For a short distance afterwards RUSTY DUSTY GREY was unable to obtain clear ground resulting in the gelding being restrained to obtain clear ground on the outside of BUFFALO POWER. J. Potter was cautioned for attempting a run where there was insufficient room.

Subsequent to the race SHOWGAZER was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had aggravated a previous off fore tendon strain during the race. Mr. R. Coote, the trainer of SHOWGAZER, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before the gelding was accepted for a future event.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres SALLY ROSE (Darren Holland) was obliged to steady momentarily away from the heels of ZIP INFATUATION (J. Bowditch), which shifted out.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow J. Holder, the rider of BO BEST, and the gelding’s trainer, Mr. L. Macdonald, to view the official footage in the straight. After doing so, J. Holder declined an option to lodge an objection and Correct Weight was declared.

RACE 8 – ALL CHATTER AT WYNDHOLM PARK HANDICAP

DINKY BARRY (J. Potter) struck the gates prematurely and then reared, missing the start.

SNIPALLAH (C. Bryant), REAL SHANTY (D. Carney) and BETTA FORTUNE (J. Holder) were slow to jump.

When questioned regarding his riding of LOUOTTO at the entrance to the straight, Apprentice, M. Neilson, explained that he had travelled three wide with cover to this point and elected not to take an option of improving outside FINE STEM (B. Vale) as he was conscious of improving too soon. He added that in hindsight that would have been a safer option. Stewards advised M. Neilson that they noted the explanation tendered.

LOUOTTO (M. Neilson) was held up for a short distance shortly after entering the straight.

LOONG HAR (T. Creek) got its head up and raced ungenerously under pressure in the straight.

VICTORIA PARK – 22ND JUNE 2002 – RACE 5

Stewards continued an inquiry into OH SO DISCREET being presented to race in blinkers. Further evidence was taken from Mr. D. O’Sullivan, Trainer, and Mr. D. Webster, who represented Mr. O’Sullivan at the meeting. After considering this evidence Mr. O’Sullivan was fined $200 under ARR 140A and advised that a more severe penalty may have resulted from such a serious breach if there had been different circumstances.

BALAKLAVA – 26TH JUNE 2002

G. Dorol was questioned regarding his reasons for foregoing two rides at this meeting. G. Dorol explained that he had succeeded in wasting for these rides, however, in his opinion had not felt well enough to fulfil his obligations. G. Dorol was advised that while Stewards would not issue a penalty under ARR 120(b) in this instance, they would, in future, consider imposing a penalty under ARR 85B in relation to his failing to fulfil an engagement.
