 Race
1 - 46 DAYS TO CARNIVAL NOVICE HURDLE - 3135 METRES Simon Ryan, rider of Mighty Macarno stated that he rode the
gelding back in the field as this is the gelding's normal racing pattern. Ryan added that
after commencing to improve his position near the 1100 metres Mighty Macarno made a faulty
jump at the hurdle near the 800 metres and almost fell. He believed that the horse did not
feel fluent in its action from that point onwards and for this reason did not ride the
gelding out in his normal manner. Patrick Kelly rider of Yaccadale stated that the gelding
made a faulty jump near the 1200 metres and then felt sore behind after jumping the next
two obstacles and for this reason he eased the gelding out of the race around the home
turn. A veterinary examination of the gelding revealed that it had sustained a laceration
to its near foreleg. Race 2 - RYANMOVES MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1200 METRES On return to scale S. Vella, rider of Denis weighed in
slightly under a half kilogram lighter than his declared weight of 57.5. The Stewards then
called for the bridle to be placed in the weigh. Prior to the bridle arriving the stewards
reweighed S. Vella and he was found to be within a half kilogram of his declared weight.
The Stewards allowed S. Vella half a kilogram under the rules and correct weight was
declared. On jumping away Confidence Builder and Denis bumped. Confidence Builder and
Denis were then tightened for room between Piping Time and Hong Se Lad which both shifted
ground. Rounding the home turn and for the majority of the straight Hong Se Lad was held
up when unable to obtain a clear run. Also rounding the home turn Julian raced greenly and
approaching the winning post shifted out under pressure. Race 3 - MERCEDES BENZ CARNIVAL BONUS MAIDEN PLATE
        (2) - 1200 METRES Acting on veterinary advice that Jefferson had sustained an
injury to its near eye enroute to the course and was unfit to run, the Stewards withdrew
the gelding from the event at 12.55 p.m. Pete's Hero had struck its head prior to the
event and had a slight abrasion and also a light trickle of blood in one nostril. Pete's
Hero was examined at the start by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.
Acting on a report from the starter that End Of Message proved very difficult to load into
the starting stalls and as a consequence delayed the start of the race. Stewards notified
Mr. N. Phillips, Stable Foreman for Mr. S. Royal, Trainer of the gelding, that End Of
Message which had been warned for its bad barrier behaviour at its last start is now
suspended from racing until such time as the gelding trials to the satisfaction of the
stewards in a trial and at which time it must receive a barrier certificate. Approaching
the 1000 metres Beach Day which was hanging in shifted in and brushed Major Big Time.
Approaching the 700 metres Zedauring, when racing tight on the inside of Look In The Sun,
was then brushed by that gelding, shifted in towards the running rail and had to be
checked. Cut The Wind which was following was hampered in consequence. Race 4 - NEVILLE McNEIL TYREPOWER STEEPLECHASE -
3450 METRES The start of this race was delayed due to the police
failing to arrive on course to close Tozer Road and Alfred Road. When Bone Jolter fell at
the first fence Hostler which was following was bought down as a consequence and Zamamoon
which was following was severely hampered resulting in P Greig, the geldings rider being
dislodged and Intensive Care was also hampered. At the first fence in the straight the
first time Staking made the jump awkwardly and shifted out and severely hampered
Conveyance. After jumping the fence coming onto the course proper near the 1100 metres
Irish Piper was hampered when taken out by the riderless Hostler. Approaching the second
last fence Intensive Care and Too Easy were both severely hampered by the riderless
Hostler. Also at the second last fence Midnight Smoker made the jump awkwardly shifted out
and lost ground. Lord Zenobia, was pulled up near the 600 metres by its rider W. Williams.
A veterinary examination of that gelding revealed that it was lame in the off foreleg. Mr.
Don Hateley, trainer of the gelding, was notified that he must produce a veterinary
certificate of fitness for the gelding prior to it starting again. During the running of
the race Lead Singer suffered a bleeding attack. Miss A. Beveridge, rider of Midnight
Smoker 2nd placing was reprimanded and notified that she must ride all her
mounts out hands and heels to the winning post. Race 5 - WARRNAMBOOL RACING.COM.AU CLASS 3
HANDICAP - 1200 METRES No Report. Race 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP - 1200 METRES No Report. Race 7 - CRICHTON PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 4
HANDICAP - 2245 METRES Approaching the 1200 metres Regal Ark was forced out by
Beaufort Miss (L. Irwin) which shifted out to improve its position. L Irwin was notified
to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Race 8 - JEFF DAVIES ELECTRICAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP -
1700 METRES On jumping away Tartan Ribot was tightened for room by My
Boy Alby and Divorced which both shifted ground. After passing the 200 metres Jackawill
which shifted in to obtain a run on the inside of Gryphon hampered Renzo and Mystic Man. Race 9 - MORRISS ROAD MILK BAR CLASS 1 HANDICAP -
1400 METRES Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. D. Londregan,
Trainer of Changsha that the gelding had injured its near fore fetlock this morning and
was unfit to run. The Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 10.50 a.m. Mr
Londregan has supplied a veterinary certificate in respect of the gelding being unfit to
start today. Western District lost its near hind plate. S. Vella rider of Fanatic which
performed below expectations stated to the stewards that the gelding travelled well
throughout the event until put under pressure near the 800 metres and was a beaten horse
from that point. S. Vella added that he thought there was something amiss with the gelding
at this stage and further added that in his opinion some sections of the track felt shifty
and the gelding did not handle those conditions. A veterinary examination of Fanatic
showed signs of distress and a swab sample was taken from the gelding. Navarac was slow to
begin. SWAB SAMPLES - Pre-race blood samples were taken from the following horse
