Race 1 – VILI’S PIES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 2230 metres:

On arrival at the course, Salieri Sunset was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.

After being placed in its starting stall, Our Only Vice (NZ) broke through the front gates. Our Only Vice (NZ) was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.

Way Cool jumped away awkwardly and lost ground, and Nashor (NZ) shifted out and bumped Inala Lass.

At the entrance to the straight, Way Cool had to be checked when tightened for room between Spectacular Storm, which shifted in slightly, and Inala Lass (M Pumpa), which shifted out to obtain a run on the outside of Nashor (NZ). Brass Knuckles, which was following, was hampered in consequence. M Pumpa was reprimanded and notified that he must exercise far greater care when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the winning post, Nashor (NZ) had to be eased when racing tight between Inala Lass on the inside, and Spectacular Storm.

Race 2 – SAMBOY KIDS DAY OUT MAIDEN PLATE – 1110 metres:

Over the concluding stages of the race, Our Demeter laid in.

Race 3 – SUPER VOBIS 3-Y-0 MAIDEN PLATE (1) – 1420 metres:

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr C Brown, trainer of Crimson Tryst, that the filly had an elevated temperature and was unfit to run, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Crimson Tryst at 10.35 am. Mr Brown will submit a veterinary certificate in respect of the filly.

Shortly after the start, Kohinstad (NZ) clipped the heels of Beauciel (NZ), which was taken in slightly by Kelinti.

L Robertson, rider of Cedar Lodge, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 400 metres when not sufficiently clear of Flying Arch, which resulted in Flying Arch clipping Cedar Lodge’s heels and dislodging its rider, C Lever. "Officer Barbrady" and "Cloudy Court" which were following were hampered in consequence. L Robertson was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight, 17 January and to expire at midnight, 3 February. In arriving at the penalty, the Stewards took into account his good race riding record.

Race 4 – SUPER VOBIS 3-Y-0 MAIDEN PLATE (2) – 1420 metres:

On jumping away, Country Boy was tightened for room between Tramara on the outside and Chrysaetos.

Near the 1200 metres, Brigantine became unbalanced when racing tight on the inside of Nasara.

Approaching the 600 metres, Giaconda was tightened for room between Country Boy on the outside and Tramara, which shifted out.

Over the concluding stages of the race, Chrysaetos hung out badly. A subsequent veterinary examination of Chrysaetos revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Rounding the home turn, and in the early part of the straight, Ruler was held up and unable to obtain a clear run.

Race 5 – KIDS DAY OUT CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1620 metres:

No Report.

Race 6 – TOOHEYS NEW CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1420 metres:

Near the 500 metres, Soviet Spice and Stay Loose came together, which resulted in Soviet Spice shifting out and having to be checked off the heels of Mini Waters.

Race 7 – KRUEGER TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT CLASS 1 HCP – 1110 metres:

In the straight, Arkropolis raced erratically when weakening. Erosive, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

Race 8 – ELIZA PARK FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1620 metres:

At the entrance to the straight, Lucy Flyer had to be eased and change course when tightened for room by City Doll, which shifted in. Shortly afterwards, Lucy Flyer again had to be eased off the heels of La Fornarina before obtaining a clear run.

In the straight, Southdown was momentarily held up for a run on the inside of Rhapsodize (NZ).

Race 9 – WESTPOINT FORD MAIDEN PLATE – 1620 metres:

Acting on a Report from the Starter that Tierce Surprise was difficult to load, the Stewards notified Mr M O’Neill, trainer of Tierce Surprise, that a repetition of her behaviour may lead to some action being taken against her. The Stewards ordered that prior to her starting again, he must be in receipt of a Barrier Test Certificate.

After passing the 100 metres, Brooklyn Roads, which was improving its position, had to be checked off the heels of Tierce Surprise.

FINES & NOTIFICATIONS - Mr M Ellerton, trainer of Brooklyn Roads in Race 9, was fined the sum of $50 for failing to notify his rider in accordance with the Rules.
