        Overcast Track: Slow
 (Previously Heavy; upgraded 11.13am)
 RACE
1: Ruling Ways Handicap 1100m No report. RACE 2: Tails Handicap 2120m When question M. de Montfort stated that Bondi Iceberg was
not suited by the slow pace mid-race and was obliged to make his run extremely wide when the field fanned
rounding the home turn. M. de Montfort stated that in the straight he was at a disadvantage as Bondi Iceberg was
inclined to lay in badly under pressure. RACE 3: Royal Sovereign Stakes 1200m No report. RACE 4: Breeders Classic 1200m Shanval jumped awkwardly and was hampered shortly
afterwards when Dane Wiz shifted out. About the 1000m, when taken in by Another Misty, Danasia had to steady off
the heels of Poppett, which shifted out slightly. Danasia then overraced in the early and middle stages. At the 600m
Another Misty ran out taking Shanval wider. After the running of this race the track was upgraded to dead at 3pm. RACE 5: Expressway Stakes 1200m Knickerbocker Kid was held up rounding the home turn
behind Silver Castle and until the 200m behind Nanny Maroon. Near the 600m Nanny Maroon sprawled and lost its
footing and R. Thompson stated that the mare did not stretch out fully from that point. A post-race veterinary
examination revealed Nanny Maroon to be lame behind and displaying a poor recovery rate. Trainer Mr P. Englebrecht
was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required before Nanny Maroon is permitted to race again. RACE 6: Light Fingers Stakes 1200m An objection was lodged by G. Boss, rider of 4 th
placegetter, Shovoff, against Shouq (D. Beasley) being declared 3 rd alleging interference
over the concluding 50m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the
videos the Stewards dismissed the objection when it was established that although Shovoff
was inconvenienced near the 30m when Shouq shifted in briefly and bearing in mind the
margin of a long head, they could not be satisfied that the interference had materially
affected the finishing positions. Moonflute was slow to begin. Ancient Song jumped in at the start hampering Ha Ha, Shouq,
Patterns and Faith Hill. L. Cassidy (Ancient Song) was reprimanded for permitting his
mount to shift in after travelling 100m resulting in Shouq being taken in causing Patterns
and Faith Hill to be hampered. The Big Chill, which was following, had to be checked off
the heels of Patterns. The Big Chill then overraced for some distance in the
middle stages. On the home turn Ha Ha was checked when tightened for room
between The Big Chill, which was inclined to lay in, and Quays (P. Payne), which shifted
out to improve to the outside of the heels of Patterns. P. Payne was severely reprimanded
and advised to exercise more care. Quays was disappointed for a run between Patterns and The
Big Chill approaching the 250m and had to come to the outside of The Big Chill to obtain
clear running. When questioned regarding the performance of Ha Ha, J.
Cassidy stated that his mount got tightened on jumping, but then travelled well until the
600m when the filly commenced to give ground. He added that although Ha Ha suffered
interference on the home turn, the filly was beaten at that particular time and its effort
was most disappointing. Trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse indicated the Ha Ha had done
particularly well since its win at the Gold Coast on 12 January and she was at a loss to
explain its performance. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that Ha Ha had shifted
both fore plates in running but had recovered normally. A further examination after the
filly had cooled down did not reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken. Mrs
Waterhouse undertook to report to the Stewards the results of a full veterinary check,
including the results of an endoscopic examination. Mrs Waterhouse was advised that Ha Ha
must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before it is permitted to race
again. RACE 7: Billy Cook Welter Handicap 1600m Barrier 9, which was occupied by British Buska, was
marginally slow to open. At the start Thorns slipped behind and lost considerable
ground. Bracing Rhythm was slow to begin. Approaching the first turn Palladium Star got its head up
when overracing. Approaching the 100m British Buska was hampered when
tightened for room between King Of Rhythm and Thorns, both of which shifted ground. A post-race veterinary examination of Conjuror revealed no
abnormality. A swab sample was taken. RACE 8: Time And Tide Handicap 1400m Stanmark jumped awkwardly. Future Force shifted out at the start and hampered Caught
At Dawn. When being steadied off the heels of Real Silence, which
shifted in, Stanmark overreacted and made contact with the running rail at the 1300m. SUMMARY Reprimands: Race 6: L. Cassidy (Ancient Song)
shifting in (AR137(a)). Severe Reprimands: Race 6: P. Payne (Quays)
shifting out (AR137(a)). Trials: Race 6: Ha Ha (trainer Mrs G.
Waterhouse) poor performance. Certificates: Race 5: Nanny Maroon (trainer P.
        Englebrecht) lame behind. |
