        Fine Track: Good
 Riding changes: As
L.Cassidy was indisposed the following substitutions were permitted: L.Beasley on Bear
Canyon in race 1, J.Innes on Sequi in race 3, L.Beasley on Red Chequer in race 4,
L.Beasley on Xantra in race 5 and G.Buckley on Ku Ring Gai Chase in race 8. As
App.M.Schmetzer was indisposed, permission was given for App.B.Cooper to substitute on
Let's Intergrate in race 8. General: App.N.Cumberland was fined
$100 for failing to produce his letter of authority. Race 1 - King Brian Handicap (1300m): Dancing Dane jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped
Beau Dennis. Shortly after the start Huit had to be steadied when
crowded by Athelnoth, which shifted out. Near the 1,000m Raid And Rule, which was over-racing, was
steadied after becoming awkwardly placed inside the heels of Dancing Dane. For a short distance after the 1,200m Huit was directed
onto the fence by Raid And Rule (C.Munce), and those horses made contact on a number of
occasions. C.Munce was told to exercise more care when shifting ground. Over the concluding stages Athelnoth ran out under
pressure. Dancing Dane lost its off side front shoe during the race. Race 2 - Grey Ghost Handicap (1600m): As the gates released, Dudley Do Right reared and lost
ground. A post-race veterinary examination of Sacra Clause, which
was disappointing, revealed no abnormality. When asked about the disappointing performance of Sacra
Clause, M. de Montfort said the gelding travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle
stages but failed to respond approaching the home turn when placed under pressure to
improve to the outside of Dudley Do Right, and weakened considerably in the straight.
Trainer Mr T.Donnelly said Sacra Clause had worked well leading into today's race and was
expected to run accordingly. Mr Donnelly said he now intends to give Sacra Clause a
freshen up, and undertook to report if there is anything amiss with the gelding in the
days subsequent to the race. On return to scale App.N.Cumberland, the rider of the
winner Dudley Do Right, weighed in in excess of half a kilo under his declared weight.
Acting under AR.143 the stewards called for the bridle, which when added to his gear
resulted in App.Cumberland making his declared weight. After taking evidence from Chairman
of Stewards Mr R.Murrihy, rider App.Cumberland, trainer Mr B.Johnson (representing
App.Cumberland), and Clerk of Scales Mr M.Azar, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be
fixed. N.Cumberland pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding
(AR.137(a)) in that approaching the 200m he permitted Dudley Do Right to shift in while
riding it along and insufficiently clear of Mr James, causing that horse to be checked and
taken across the running of Royal Heir, resulting in Royal Heir being hampered.
App.Cumberland's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on 4
March and to expire on 14 March, on which day he may ride. App. Cumberland was also fined
$500. Race 3 - Kista Handicap (1300m): Trainer Mrs G.Waterhouse, through stable representative Mr
P.Sexton, was fined $50 for Twiggy having been presented in the mounting enclosure without
its blinkers. Approaching the 1,100m Priceless Treasure and Whistle Dixie
were crowded by Southern Sal, which was hanging and shifting in away from Floria. J.Innes
(Sequi) was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in a short distanced
later, resulting in Floria being taken in slightly, causing Southern Sal to further crowd
Whistle Dixie and Priceless Treasure, which had to be severely checked. A post-race examination revealed that Whistle Dixie had
sustained lacerations to the near hind hock and to the front of both hind pasterns. Near the 600m Southern Sal was steadied when crowded
between Whistle Dixie and Foxabeel, which was laying in and shifted in away from
Clothilde. Near the 100m Twiggy, which was inclined to hang in,
shifted in away from Sequi, resulting in Whistle Dixie being taken in onto Southern Sal
and causing Fairy Story, which also shifted in slightly and was commencing to tire, to be
checked. Race 4 - Cele's Image Handicap (1400m): Dervish jumped awkwardly. Medowie Emperor was slow to begin. On jumping, Ya Ya Effendi shifted out abruptly and lost
ground. Valedict over-raced in the early and middle stages and for
some distance passing the 1,000m was checked away from the heels of Counterplay. Valedict
was then unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of
the straight. Close to the finishing line Medowie Emperor and Cooder were
steadied when crowded between Raise A King, which shifted in slightly, and Superfine
(App.S.Pollard), which shifted out. App.Pollard was told to exercise more care when
shifting ground. A post-race examination revealed that Counterplay had
sustained a wound to the inside of the near fore fetlock, and had lost its near fore shoe
in running. Race 5 - East Hills Welter Handicap (1,300m): G.Boss (To Rome 'N' Back) was reminded of his obligation to
ride all his mounts out hands and heels right to the winning post. Race 6 - Classic Mission Handicap (2,400m): On jumping, Joshua Michael shifted in and crowded Golden
Bobbie. Approaching the winning post the first time Tussac Flyer
got its head up and shifted out when being steadied off the heels of Cyberport. C.Brown (Blackmailer) reported that the gelding locked up
behind passing the 600m, became badly unbalanced and lost considerable ground. Time
Signal, which was following, was inconvenienced. Mr Dunn, representing trainer Mr G.Ryan,
was told that that before Blackmailer races again it must trial to the satisfaction of the
stewards and a veterinary clearance must be produced. A post-race examination of
Blackmailer revealed no abnormality. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that Negetry
was lame in the off fore leg. Trainer Mr B. Buckley was told that before Negetry races
again it must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards and he must produce a veterinary
clearance. Race 7 - Just Topic Handicap (1,600m): Luskette was slow to begin, and shortly after was hampered
by Jactris, which shifted in. My Brown Eyed Girl over-raced badly when trapped wide in
the early and middle stages. Approaching the 900m Cups Quest, which was over-racing,
became awkwardly placed on the heels of Onyx, shifted out, and galloped on My Brown Eyed
Girl. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that My Brown
Eyed Girl had sustained lacerations above both hind hocks. Trainer Mr G.Rogerson was asked
to produce a veterinary clearance before My Brown Eyed Girl races again. Race 8 - Broker's Tip Handicap (1,100m): Oakfield King Prince knuckled over at the start. Shortly after the start I Do Thee Wed was steadied when
momentarily tightened by Visual Emotion, which shifted in away from Night Before Dawn. Dazzling Tev was held up in the early part of the straight.
Let's Intergrate had some difficulty obtaining clear
running in the straight. D.Beasley explained that throughout the event Visual
Emotion was uncomfortable racing inside Night Before Dawn and laid out, and weakened
considerably in the straight. A post-race examination of Visual Emotion revealed no
abnormality. A swab sample was taken. Trainer Mr P.Perry, the trainer of Phondil Way, which was
disappointing, was asked to report if there is anything amiss with the gelding in the days
subsequent to the race. A post-race examination revealed that Lady Po had sustained
a small laceration to the inside of the near hind canon. B.Pengelly pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding
(AR.137(a)) in that passing the 150m he forced a passage where there was insufficient room
between Ku Ring Chai Chase and Lady Po, resulting in Lady Po being checked and crowded in
onto Oakfield King, which struck the running rail and was severely checked, and Ku Ring
Chai Chase being hampered. B.Pengelly's licence to ride in races was suspended for a
period to be served cumulatively with the suspension incurred at the Canberra race meeting
on 2 March 2002, and therefore to commence on 17 March and to expire on Tuesday 2 April
2002, on which day he may ride. B.Pengelly was also fined $500. SUMMARY Fines: App.N.Cumberland was fined $100 for failing to produce his
