Warwick Farm (NSW) - Sunday 10 February 2002
Weather: Fine
Track: Slow [upgraded to Dead at 2.31 pm]

Race 1 - Cordale Handicap (1100m)

Ari Banu was unable to obtain clear running at any stage of the straight and consequently was not tested.

Blue Suttarb was unable to obtain clear running until near the 200m.

Race 2 - Cuddle Handicap (First Division) (1400m)

Vereza jumped very awkwardly, shifted in and had to be checked off the heels of Little Madame.

Piper Jo, which was slow to begin, was then checked when crowded between Carabine and Zebithea, both of which shifted ground.

For some distance in the early stages Vereza, which was racing fiercely, got its head up when being checked off the heels of Little Madame.

When questioned about the disappointing performance of Little Madame, C.Brown said that, unlike at its last start, when the filly became very worked up, today Little Madame was quite relaxed on the way to the barrier. He said Little Madame travelled nicely to the 600m, from which point she commenced to give ground and failed to respond to his riding for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that Little Madame was displaying respiratory distress, an elevated heart rate and a poor recovery rate. Stable foreman Mr P.Snowden said consideration will be given to spelling Little Madame, and undertook to advise on the final decision in the days subsequent to the race.

Race 3 - Veiled Threat Handicap (1300m)

Onyx and Corelli were slow to begin.

Musical Glow jumped awkwardly.

Coablo raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

Race 4 - Empyrean Handicap (1400m)

Medowie Emperor was a late withdrawal at 11.09 a.m. Trainer Mr D. P. Smith was fined $100 for failing to withdraw Medowie Emperor by the required time.

Mark of Power was slow to begin.

Raspberry Man jumped awkwardly.

Predominater shifted out at the start and made heavy contact with Kid Millions.

Valedict was held up for a run rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

Passing the 100m Azraq shifted in and hampered Predominater.

When asked about the disappointing performance of Ferenzo, C.Munce said that when he was unable to cross inside runners in the early stages, Ferenzo commenced to race hard and consequently was unable to finish off its race. Trainer Mrs G.Waterhouse said the only explanation she could offer was that Ferenzo raced fiercely and might not have handled the step-up in grade. Mrs Waterhouse undertook to report on the progress of Ferenzo in the days subsequent to the race. A post-race veterinary examination of Ferenzo revealed no abnormality.

Race 5 - Cuddle Handicap (Second Division) (1400m)

Luskin L'Etoile was slow to begin.

Coffee Delight began awkwardly.

Near the 800m Coffee Delight had to be checked off the heels of Fairy Story, and in doing so shifted out abruptly, taking My Wishing Star wider.

Race 6 - Grenoble Handicap (1400m)

Bear Canyon shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in Able Mr. Jif being checked.

Shannanigan was badly held up for a run until near the 200m, where Bear Canyon shifted out and made contact with Shannanigan. Both runners continued to bump for some distance and became unbalanced.

Race 7 - Straight Draw Handicap (2400m)

As L.Cassidy was overweight, G.Buckley was substituted as the rider of Social Red. L.Cassidy was fined $100.

Near the 600m Adam's Luck was taken wide when Raffute shifted out from behind Gallant Pride to improve.

Joshua Michael shifted out under pressure in the straight.

Royal Obsession lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 8 - Blue Legend Handicap (1600m)

Kalalycia was a late withdrawal at 8.25 a.m. Trainer Mr G.Portelli was fined $100 for failing to withdraw Kalalycia by the required time.

Kepi Blanc and Beale Street were slow to begin.

Near the 1000m Babouchke got its head up when being steadied off the heels of Mazuma, which shifted out, resulting in Bill's Buddy, which was following, having to be checked. Babouchke continued to over-race and a short distance later shifted out, taking Blarney's Best wide.

Passing the 600m Jazzi Bullet was steadied when disappointed for a run between Gallic Chief and Beale Street.

Summary
