Track: Good

Supplementary Report:

Royal Randwick Wednesday 3 April 2002: Race 5 Waverley Handicap 2400m:

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Time Signal, D. McLellan stated that the gelding travelled well in the run, however, when placed under pressure from the 700m did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race.

Ken's Barbie was slow to begin. Approaching the 1000m Dansant (A. W. Robinson) shifted in crowding Mr Mondrook, which made contact with Sintegra. A. Robinson was reminded of his obligation to ensure that he leave runners to his inside the room to which they are entitled. P. Ferris (Kir Royale) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Inatin resulting in that filly having to be checked and lose its rightful running. P. Ferris' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 14/4/02 and to expire on Thursday 25/4/02 on which day he may ride. Passing the 500m the saddle on Inatin slipped to the offside, placing its rider at a disadvantage. When attempting to improve rounding the home turn Conquest was restrained from the heels of Danish Thunder and became unbalanced. Approaching the 200m Sintegra was crowded by Cheeky Katie, which shifted in away from Danish Thunder. In this incident Sintegra lost some ground.

RACE 2: Wyong Racecourse Function Centre Plate (2yo Maiden Div.2) 1100m:

Handsome Colours was fractious in the barriers and reared resulting in its near-fore leg getting caught over the front of the gates. Acting on veterinary advice the gelding was withdrawn at 12.54pm. Subsequently it was directed that all bets made on Handsome Colours, including quinella bets incorporating that horse, be refunded and all bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of tickets: traditional win 57¢ and place 27¢, multiple doubles 57¢. When questioned regarding his riding tactics on With Panache, S. Moses stated that the instructions were to ride the mare back with the idea of With Panache learning to settle. He stated that shortly after the start he was crowded badly by Sweet Air, which shifted in, and as a result With Panache then overraced. He stated that it was not until the 600m that With Panache commenced to race truly, however, rounding the home turn the mare commenced to hang out badly and near the 200m he was obliged to check off the heels of Sky Can Hurri and Sweet Air. He stated further that once he shifted to the inside of Sweet Air, although he had clear running to the line, With Panache continued to hang out badly and he was unable to ride the mare out in his normal manner. A post-race veterinary examination of With Panache revealed no abnormality. S. Moses was advised that although he was riding to instructions he should ensure on every occasion that he places his mounts to their best advantage.

RACE 7: Wyong Rugby League Club Plate (Maiden) 1350m:

In the early stages Canny Fella was inclined to lay in and near the 1200m got its head up when being restrained from the heels of Spurwood. Approaching the 400m Spurwood was awkwardly placed on the heels of Rap The Zap and shortly after was momentarily steadied when racing in restricted room between that gelding and I Declare. For a short distance entering the straight Mr. Hollywood was held up on the heels of the tiring Ava Bolli.

RACE 8: Neville McBurney - Henderson Bay Handicap (Class 3) 1600m:

As App. C. Karakatsanis was overweight the Stewards gave permission for App. S. Pollard to be substituted as the rider of Fire Wood. App. Karakatsanis was fined $50 (AR120(b)). Perance jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1200m, when the pace steadied, Total Rush got its head up when being steadied from the heels of Above All. Cups Quest and Fire Wood, which were following, were hampered in consequence. When questioned L. Beasley could offer no explanation for the poor performance of Cups Quest. He stated that after receiving the interference at the 1200m Cups Quest was under pressure and a beaten horse a long way from home. A post-race veterinary examination of Cups Quest revealed no abnormality. Trainer Mr P. Perry will be interviewed regarding the immediate racing future of Cups Quest.

RACE 9: Tooheys Limited Plate (Provincial Class 1 & Maiden) 1600m:

Great Dink jumped awkwardly and was then crowded by Gilded Armour, which was taken out abruptly by All About Class. As a result, Gilded Armour and Great Dink lost considerable ground. Great Dink then veered out abruptly placing its rider at a disadvantage for a short distance. Shortly after the start Fatima and Cornersoff were badly crowded between What A Bottler, which shifted out, and Priscilla, which shifted in. Dance To Budapest, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. Leaving the 200m Priscilla (G. Buckley) shifted out around the heels of Fatima resulting in Cornersoff being crowded between Priscilla and St. Xavier and having to be steadied off the heels of Priscilla. G. Buckley was reprimanded. Gospelor hung in under pressure in the straight and near the 100m bumped St. Xavier. Dance To Budapest was unable to obtain clear running in the straight and consequently was unable to be tested. What A Bottler was unable to obtain clear running until inside the 50m. When questioned regarding Gentle Tom racing more forward today, Ms L.
