            | Race | Horse | Rider | Replaced By | Reason |
            | 1 | "Yahoo" | R. Kirkpatrick | P. Kelly | Unavailable |
            | 7 | "Canasta Sam" | A. Patterson | Jade DaRose | See below | * No other rider available Race 1 - N.M.I.T. HURDLE - 3300 metres: During the running of the race the saddle on "Super
Revenir" slipped back, which resulted in R. Maund, its rider, pulling the gelding up
at the entrance to the straight. On return to scale "Super Revenir" was found to
have sustained an injury to its near fore leg; "Monagela" had sustained a wound
to the inside of its off fore leg, and "Zabacci" had suffered a laceration to
the knee. "Mr. Chopper Cee (NZ)" lost its off fore plate
during the running of the race. Race 2 - PRIMO SMALLGOODS SUPER VOBIS
THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1960 metres: Jockey Adrian Patterson inadvertently appeared in the race
book as an apprentice. Shortly after the start "To the Bumper (NZ)" and
"Hall Maroon" came together. Approaching the winning post the first time "To the
Bumper (NZ)" shifted in when not sufficiently clear and hampered "Hall
Maroon". A. Patterson, rider of "To the Bumper (NZ)", was reprimanded and
notified to exercise more care in future. Near the 1500 metres "Weekend Fling" was
tightened for room between "Parish Priest" on the inside, and "To the
Bumper (NZ)" due to both horses shifting ground. Passing the winning post the first time
"Alunarmist" had to be checked when tightened for room by "To the Bumper
(NZ)", which had a tendency to lay in, and which shifted in when not sufficiently
clear. A Patterson, rider of "To the Bumper (NZ)", was reprimanded and notified
to exercise more care in future. Turning out of the straight "Windows of Time"
lost its footing. On the home turn "Windows of Time" was held up
for a run. B. Park, rider of "Parish Priest", was found
guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that he permitted his
mount to shift in at the entrance to the straight when not sufficiently clear of
"Domineer Prince", which resulted in that gelding having to be checked. B. Park
was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Monday, 4th
March, and to expire at midnight on Tuesday, 19th March, 2002. Near the 400 metres "Mitch's Magic" was tightened
for room between "Parish Priest" , which shifted out slightly, and "To the
Bumper (NZ)". Race 3 - DOOLKOORA STEEPLECHASE - 3300 metres:
Shortly after the start G. Crofskey, rider of "Val
D'Haze (NZ)", dropped his whip. Also shortly after the start "Ricochet Riesling"
was tightened for room between "Jon Ledecky (NZ)" on the inside, and
"Mister Potential". After jumping the third fence on top of the hill "Jon
Ledecky (NZ)" clipped the heels of "Ricochet Riesling" which, when racing
erratically, shifted in. Turning out of the straight "Val D'Haze (NZ)"
slipped and almost fell. Running down the hill the second time "Ricochet
Riesling" clipped the heels of the riderless "Mister Potential". At the entrance to the straight "Jon Ledecky
(NZ)" clipped the heels of "Gentle Habits", and knuckled. During the running of the race "Val D'Haze (NZ)"
suffered a bleeding attack. Race 4 - AINSWORTH SHIRAZ MAIDEN PLATE - 1510
metres: Shortly after the start "Snowy's Edge" was
tightened for room between "Grafton Street" and "Sir Vino Rosso",
which shifted out. Race 5 - PRIMO SMALLGOODS CLASS 3 HANDICAP -
        1510 metres: No report. Race 6 - AINSWORTH ESTATE CLASS 4 CUP - 1960
metres: Approaching the 400 metres "Bewdy James" was held
up behind "Salad Touch (NZ)", which was weakening. Passing the 400 metres "Salad Touch (NZ)" was
tightened for room by "Bewdy James", which shifted in slightly. Race 7 - ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE CLASS 2
HANDICAP - 1210 metres: As A. Patterson was to be overweight, the Stewards
permitted Jade Darose to be substituted as the rider of "Canasta Sam". The
Stewards notified A. Patterson that should he accept rides outside of his weight bracket
in future he may be penalised. Prior to correct weight B. Park, rider of "Rare
Mica", fourth past the post, viewed the Stewards' patrol video and decided to lodge
an objection against "Adee's Dancer" being declared third placegetter on the
grounds of alleged interference after passing the 200 metres. After the parties had viewed
the Stewards' patrol video and the TV version of the race, and after hearing the
submissions of the parties concerned the Stewards upheld the objection, the amended
        placings being "Shiva", 1st'; "Comtrice"; 2nd;
"Rare Mica", 3rd, and "Adee's Dancer", 4th. Near the 1000 metres "Zinge" and "Jose
Legra" had to be checked when tightened for room by "Comtrice", which was
taken in by "Lisa Jane", which was tightened for room by "Adee's
Dancer". As D. Nikolic, rider of "Adee's Dancer" had left the course, he
will be reprimanded and notified that he must ensure that he is clear of other runners
when shifting ground. Near the 800 metres "Jose Legra" shifted out and
clipped the heels of "Canasta Sam" and knuckled. M. Pay, rider of "Jose Legra", stated to the
Stewards that as a result of these two incidents the gelding raced further back than was
his intention. Pay added that in his opinion "Jose Legra" was not striding out
in its normal manner. A veterinary examination of "Jose Legra" failed to reveal
any abnormality. On the home turn "Lisa Jane" had to be checked
off the heels of "Constant in Opal", which was weakening. An inquiry into the reason for D. Nikolic leaving the
racecourse without the permission of the Stewards was adjourned to a date to be fixed. Race 8 - HOME HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1510
metres: On jumping away "Freestone" knuckled, and shifted
out and tightened "Centuism". At the entrance to the straight "Devonshire Tea"
shifted out and brushed "Freestone", resulting in that gelding becoming
unbalanced. Approaching the winning post "Devonshire Tea"
shifted in and inconvenienced "Trump That". SWAB SAMPLES were taken from "Close
Quarters", winner of the N.M.I.T. Hurdle - Race 1; from "Val D'Haze (NZ)",
winner of the Doolkoora Steeplechase - Race 3; from "Stalking Moon", winner of
the Primo Smallgoods Class 3 Handicap - Race 5; from "Balmy Bar", winner of the
Ainsworth Estate Class 4 Cup - Race 6, and from "Roman Arch", winner of the Home
Hotel Class 1 Handicap - Race 8. Six horses were pre-race blood tested for post-race
analysis. FINES/EXPLANATIONS: Ms Christine Boyd, trainer of "Angel's Gem" which
ran in the Home Hotel Class 1 Handicap - Race 8 - was fined $30 for using wrong colours on
        the mare. |
